Shatters for everyone!
Hard to complain about that!
So beautiful!!
And now a fresh shed from Tambourine, female sunkissed lava. I think she’s the brightest one so far?
I like Zither a lot. Heck, they’re all lovely. Tambourine really is a bright girl. She’s going to be a brilliant adult.
Zither is pretty! Can you say “Zither the Shatter” 3 times really fast? .
I can, indeed. I can also repeat rapidly,
“Zither the Shatter doth slither, not splatter.” How about you?
Two more sheds today. Piccolo, male lava shatter and Hurdy-Gurdy, female sunkissed. Her head stamp looks like a slightly bolder version of her mom’s antlers.
Oboe, the little kinked guy, shed without issue. He moves around just fine too. One kink is faintly visible to the eye, the others can be felt, but are extremely hard to see. One minor kink is exactly where his heart is, so it’s possible it could be life-limiting. But we’ll see. I’ll attempt to feed him like normal and if he’s a tricky eater, I won’t put too much effort into tricking him. I tried to get a picture of the main kink and it’s really hard to see.
Oh Olivia! So sorry about little Oboe! Such a sweet little boy!
He is too! He was all reared back when I went to take him out, so I thought he was going to be a spicy boy, but nope, he was great. Tolerated my handling very well.
And the last little baby finally shed! I didn’t introduce this guy earlier since I wasn’t sure if he was going to make it and I wanted to at least see if he’d look better after his first shed and thankfully, he does. This is Ocarina, the lava shatter. He (or she, I haven’t sexed this one yet) was one of the first ones to emerge fully from the egg, but he came out attached to his yolk and had a significant amount of umbilical cord, possibly herniated. He seemed tired at hatching as well, but I went ahead and put him in some damp paper towels in a little container. I did eventually move him to his baby bin, but I added some damp moss.
Anyway, he finally shed last night and looks great! He got his shed all off without issue (and then climbed back into it). His umbilical area looks healed and closed, although the scales around it look a little funny. I’ll keep an eye on it and see how it looks as he grows. I usually weigh all the babies at hatching, but since he had so much stuff hanging off of him, I didn’t do that. But now after hatching, he is definitely the smallest baby of the clutch at 4.7 grams.
Awwwwwww. Here’s hoping little Ocarina thrives from now on!
Look at his little veil. Awww.
I hope Oboe is able to make it as a pet. I know you’ll give him a good chance and do your very best to be kind, whatever form that needs to take. He’s a lovely little guy.
Hooray! Ocarina looks like he’s healing very well so far. I have been saying some prayers for this one. You’ve taken excellent care of him in the Solar Serpents NICU.
Smartie pants! But I, my dear, CAN say it! (Just let me practice first. My people will call your people!
I was planning on waiting until Thursday to offer first meals to all the babies of this clutch, but I just felt so bad that there are several who have been out hunting every night since their shed. So tonight, I picked three babies that have been hunting a lot to offer pinkies to. And I’m so happy to report that all three ate without hesitation!
Vuvuzela, Castanet, and Dulcimer:
Excellent!
