That’s my favorite jealousy meme. Lol.
I can’t stop laughing! ![]()
A few fresh sheds from these 66% ph palmetto babies. One is really bright! I’m thinking that one is het Palmetto and the other two aren’t? Neither parent was listed as being het hypo, but maybe? The belly checkers on the light one are not black. And that one has no pigment in her shed and the two darker ones do.
I would say that would be a Het….at least from my perspective and understanding
Matches my understanding, too, but I have been surprised how dark my classic het palmetto is. Her mom was definitely a Palmetto, so there’s no doubt about her genetics, but she’s still surprisingly dark. She doesn’t have melanin in her shed, though, so she for sure has the hypo-effect of the het palmetto.
Good to know!
Masque has a hypo effect but does not clear the shed of melanin.
So pretty!
Beautiful! Those Amels seem like more than just Amel. Peach, or Buf, or some other thing I know almost nothing about. ![]()
Definitely love that first Palmetto ![]()
First feeds for the palmetto clutch. 8 out of 8 so far! I’m just about set up the other half of the clutch for their first attempts as well.
The third little guy pictured, Cepheus, was born missing the very end of his tail. Clearly it’s not bothering him much! And he also shed without issue.
I forgot to post last night, but 7 of 8 of the second half of the clutch ate as well! So total 15 out of 16 took first meals without any tricks or hesitation. Really happy!
Fantastic statistics! ![]()
Wow! You’re having an excellent year for babies eating! So, SO happy for you!
Oh, I wanted to send this photo of my Anery palmetto’s shed so you can see the low melanin:
It’s not completely gone—some shows through—just like hypo tends to do on my ghosts. But it’s definitely not full melanin like I see on normals’ sheds.
Can you see the half darkish spots on the head stamp?
I can! Not sure I’d have spotted it without you pointing it out, but that’s on my bad vision lol. Interesting.
Huge congrats on all those good feedings!
That’s very helpful, thanks! I do see the spot.
Can’t remember if I posted this tiny clutch or not. This was a surprise clutch from Blitzen, sunkissed lava het cinder. Just 3 good looking eggs and a bunch of slugs. I’ve been patiently waiting for pips and it’s finally the end of day 79 and they’re pipping! I was starting to get a bit worried about them because I was seeing no movement when I candled them, so I did cut one egg yesterday to see if it was alive and it seemed like it, so then I left them be.
After this, there’s just that one small 6 egg double clutch from Dawn that is due in late September and then my hatching season will be done!
Day 79! Wow, that’s long. Is this a second clutch? If so, is it common for 2nd clutches to incubate for a longer time? We’re on day 76 for Luna’s second clutch, which seems so bizarre since they’re in the same incubation environment as the ones that pipped in the 60’s.
I so rarely get second clutches that I haven’t noticed a pattern. The only thing with mine is that the house stays more consistently cool for later in the year clutches just because we’re running the air conditioning all day. So that’s what I chalk it up to!
