Looking for people who work w the special gene to help me on a tricky - and somewhat of a long backstory - clutch that I just hatched!!! They are below in a clutch pic but do have individual shots!
Pairing that started this was a super pastel mojo blackhead red gene ringer gene x black pastel yb
That produced an all grey snake
Took grey snake and bred to leopard poss spark
Took a baby from that clutch which we thought was a blackhead Leo black pastel and paired to a special and have the results below
We would need the backstory to help lol. You obviously have some other genes in the mix! Looks like maybe blackhead? I work with special but admittedly mostly bel combos.
What was the other parent of the first clutch that produced a gray snake?
Special is a tough gene to identify, but I would imagine it would act like the other BEL genes and stripe out blackhead combos. If I had to place bets, the top middle and bottom two on the left have special, but with leopard mixed in that makes ID even harder.
It is and it isn’t lol. Next to mojave it’s fairly easy to pick out. In my experiences outside of crystal stuff with the special gene it acts like a mild version of mojave in combos if that makes any sense. Also I’ve noticed special causes less dorsal striping then the other bel genes I have/worked with.
Having seen a BlkPastel BH Mystic in the flesh and the near complete obliteration of the dorsal and lateral pattern, I am inclined to say no Mojave. I suppose it is possible that Pastel could bring those back, but I feel that would be an odd behaviour for Pastel to induce
