Is this a temporary/quarantine enclosure?
Even so there is literally nowhere for the little one to hide
, Crested Geckos often really dislike being out in the open, I highly reccomend incorporating fake plants at the very least.
Gonna be 100% honest - this is a very poor setup for your crestie. They are shy(ish) arboreal species, and you have no clutter to be seen. They need leafy clutter throughout (but mostly in the upper portion of) their setup to help feel more secure, plus access to several elevated horizontal platforms to discourage wall sleeping and help prevent the development of floppy tail. I’d be very shocked if the gecko didn’t suffer in the long term if kept like that without change. It also seems too small/short to comfortably house your gecko, it’s recommended to keep one adult crested in nothing smaller than an 18"x18"x24" enclosure.
I have to agree with above. If this is a temporary/quarantine enclosure, I can understand the size and a need for a cleaner space…
But even with that, there should at least be plastic flowers or leaves to hide in and more than one branch. It can still be easy to clean and provide the cover they need. The paper towels should also be covering the bottom, it looks like yours are folded to one side and wet?
If this is a long term enclosure, you really would be best with a taller space, not a square or long. Also, I don’t see a thermometer or hydrometer. How do the parameters look here?
Thanks for the suggestion, I really appreciate it!
My gecko just arrived home today, and I’m still setting everything up.
I will add hiding spots and fake plants very soon to make it feel safe and comfortable. Thanks so much!
Thanks for your honest advice, I really appreciate it!
My crestie just arrived recently, and this setup is still temporary. I’ve already ordered another big enclosure, it’s on the way and will arrive soon. I’ll add lots of plants and climbing perches once the new tank is ready to make a proper bioactive setup for it.
Thanks again for the tips!
I understand that you are going to add to this enclosure to make it suitable for your crestie. This is a great example for those who buy the animal first and create the enclosure afterwards. One should Always have the enclosure properly set up First before adding the animal. This is for the animal’s health and welfare……
I agree with everyone and especially @caron here
If your crestie has no supplemental heat at the moment, are you ensuring the room temperature is sufficient for the animal’s health?
And not to repeate what has been said, but this is much too sparse for a crestie, even for a quarentine tank
