TLDR: Rescued crested gecko female laid 3 eggs.
I don’t have a concern here, just wanted to post this oddity.
Backstory: I recently re-acquired a female I used to keep in my collection that had been sold as a breeder to someone i thought was a responsible keeper. Unfortunately, this person’s health took a turn for the worse and the person was unable to take care of their geckos going forward. They asked me to take the geckos because they had no one else who could help. I was informed at pickup that at one point, the geckos had not been fed for two weeks straight, I’m not sure how often that might have happened. I am trying not to make judgments, but rather, working to move forward and make sure the geckos are in good health before rehoming them. Most of them are fine, but this female gecko, Flambeau, was very skinny and was very obviously gravid.
Over the past 3 weeks, she had been in quarantine tubs with the other rescued geckos, and I have been anxiously awaiting her eggs to be laid - not because i want more babies but because this gal will do best in retirement woth some of my other, older females. Tonight, she laid her eggs and there were a total of 3! One looks like it might be viable, and another that had a partial egg attached. The partial egg is circled in the attached picture (big red circle on Right) and the part of the egg it was attached to (smaller circle in red).
I was able to remove the half-formed egg from thw whole one. Sticky white substance came out of the partially formed egg. It might have been an old egg that bonded with the new, or just a new egg being created. Not sure, but thought I would share…because science.
Flambeau has one more week in quarantine and then will be put into my granny colony to rest and recouperate.
