Top of Enclosure question?

Hope everyone’s week has been awesome, :metal::sunglasses:

I wanted to get your thoughts on either plexiglass or any other type of material board/poster board to put on top of the mesh top of the enclosure to keep in humidity? I’ve heard corrugated plastic might be a good one to? Would love to hear about what you guys might personally have set up for your enclosures. This is obviously a temporary fix for me, I think a solid top PVC enclosure upgrade is probably the way to go in the near future, but for now I’ve been using Aluminum foil and it works okay. Don’t love the look of it and it seems to only work for a day or two and then I have to continue to wet the substrate when I change out the water for both my Boa and Ball Python. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

-B

I have used regular towels to lay on top of screen enclosures and maybe a book on top of that……

Interesting  funny that you bring that up i literally just read that some breeders/owners do that with Wet towels. Appreciate your suggestion!!

@bryanf88 Btw What are you housing Bryan?

Edit to add: Oops I didn’t see the ball python and boa at the end of your op. Actually imho, you really don’t need a light for your BP, since they hide during the day. Natural light will work fine and help keep the humidity up. 50 to 60% is a good level.

I got a piece of thin acrylic cut to cover some of the top of my hermit crab enclosure to maintain humidity, since the set up is in a common open top glass aquarium enclosure.
If you go that route, be careful with overhead heating elements, but depending on your tank set up it could work

Oh good to know, I’ll for sure give that a try and see how the dry towels work.

I have a a Pastel Enchi Clown Ball Python that’s about a year.

And I have a Motley (Colombian) 50%het Kahl BI. That’s about 6 months

Both in Glass enclosures that are temporary. They’re both about 40gallon enclosures with mesh tops, so they can chill for a few years. But I will upgrade them sooner than later to a PVC enclosure. From everything I’ve read it’s an All around better situation when it comes to temp and humidity. Just deciding on one is the hard part. Haha a lot to choose from. Something to look forward too for next year.

No unfortunately I don’t have them. My health was the factor. I have a number of issues that are not friendly to handling larger snakes.

Now I have ball pythons, short tails, corns. and one hoggie, plus T’s, geckos, spiders, and a blind beardie……

lol here you go, this is my Boa

Oh dude same it was between this guy and his brother that was a Hypo IMG which I LOOOVE but I wanted a Boa that would keep its pattern and contrast for life. And with IMG’s from what I’ve read and researched its gamble? They might turn darker but keep some pattern and contrast. Or they can just go straight black. So I thought this Motley was a better choice. Haha
