Acid is an incomplete dominant trait so there is no het acid.

Gotcha, so if the breeder said its a possible acid (one of parents was an acid) is that a lie or is it possible because its not showing visually?

Yes that would be incorrect no it’s not possible a incomplete dominant gene shows visually in single gene form. Recessive traits in het form don’t show visual indication. But Acid is incomplete dominant so there is no possible way your animal carries the gene because it’s not visually showing it. I hope that makes sense @t_h_wyman and @chesterhf are the resident legit geneticists

We do not actually know this, in fact, the available data right now implies that Acid is simple dominant.

Josh and Justin have both bred for supers and neither has produced anything that is phenotypically different. We are still waiting for all the Acids/Confusions from those clutches to grow up and be bred out to see if any of them are homozygous

My suspicion is that the breeder is not lying but instead is not particularly familiar with Acids on the whole and so has a difficult time identifying it in combinations.

I was not aware of this! Even so simple dominant doesn’t have a het form either.

Would you agree this particular snake doesn’t carry the acid gene?

I appreciate the clarification. I’m finding the complexity of breeding different types of genetics very interesting. So much to learn and lot that is still unknown…makes it pretty exciting!

Yeah, as I noted in his original post, there is definitely no Acid in that animal
