I’m curious has anyone noticed there Varanus cumingi eating fruits and veggies. I noticed when I put diced veggies and fruits in for the insects that Kidlat will eat them as well. He seems to enjoy them.
I haven’t personally raised them, but I have seen other carnivore species that will snack on veg or fruits in the past. I feel like in the case of many species, there just hasn’t been enough work actually done to see just what they are eating at different life stages. A lot of what I see focused on adult eating behavior. Iirc, yours is fairly young. It could be something he grows out of later. Like insects once they’re big enough for more meaty meals.
As long as there isn’t too much citrus or broccoli/cauliflower type stuff in there because those are usually the troublemaking foods. The rest should be fine chopped. Basically make sure it’s small enough to pass since as a carnivore he may not be able to digest it fully.
I would keep an eye out for any possible health issues for sure. The important part is making sure he is still also eating his usual carnivorous fare. If this is an occasion thing happening only a couple times a month, not regularly it’s hopefully shouldn’t be an issue.
Obviously if anyone who has worked with these guys pops in, that is most likely a better opinion since I haven’t worked with V. Cumingi
