I set up my new rack system for potential boa litters this spring. It is six VE-6 racks and three VE-2 racks with HerpStats. I’ve been running tests to see how it holds heat and humidity. The set up has been great at holding a consistent hot spot and gradient. By putting a water bowl on the cool side, the humidity stays around the low 70% range. My question is that there currently isn’t any ventilation holes in the tubs. Do I need to make holes, or is the small space in between the tub and rack enough ventilation. Obviously putting holes in the tub would lower the humidity, so I would need to compensate for that.

If they haven’t been set up with whatever type of bedding you plan on using as well, I would try that for a few tubs and see how it affects things. Of course the animals will cause fluxes when they’re in there as well.
The space between the tub and shelf typically does allow enough airflow for the animals inside, but it can also cause problems if the humidity levels get out of hand and you see mold/fungus/bacteria growth in your tubs.
I had most of my tubs keyed in on humidity/temps but this year everything seems to be out of whack and I may be drilling some holes to vent off extra humidity in mine.
