That depends entirely on your state laws and the species you want to keep. You can try a few things, from looking at what species you like and want, then determining if they’re native to your state. If they’re native you’ll likely have restrictions on what you can/cannot do.
I’d narrow down your list of what you like/want, look into your state regulations, and if there’s any questions or concerns, I’d contact your local DNR office, as they should in theory be able to provide you with whatever information you need, or at least guide you to the correct resources.
