Well, this wasn't a colour I was expecting to see!

Decided to try feeding everyone again. Got two that hadn’t yet eaten to eat, and then another four took their second meals, including Leaky.

So awesome he is doing so well!

Tbh he’s doing even better than the other Amel and is one of the most consistent of the bunch, both temperament and feeding wise. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s actually one of the first ready to go, at this rate.

That is super to hear

Have decided Leaky’s binmate needed a name, so Sneaky it is!

Does that have a story behind it?

He tries really hard to “hide” himself…By squishing between the bin and the hide at the back. The clear bin. :joy:

Well, after a bit of sleuthing, I found out where the Amel came from. Turns out Sienna is het Butter! I knew she was originally produced by SMR, so I figured if I did enough digging, I might find a post about her, and I did. I guess this also removes Miami? Either way, what a surprise this turned out to be!

She’s beautiful. Nice clean coloration, and some interesting things happening with her saddles, too.

Okay, I have no clue what’s up with this baby, but the patterning is just so striking.

That baby has some nice dark reds.

It’s the dark down the spine and the light in the sides that I’m looking forward to seeing develop. Obviously hasn’t shed yet, but I can’t imagine it’ll look terribly different.

Yeah, it looks super crazy compared to a normal corn.

There is at least one other with similar patterning, and a gap in the belly checkers. Not sure what might be influencing, but the potential adult colouration & pattern have me intrigued.

Leaky has shed, and I somewhat question my inital guess of male, but we shall see what DNA brings. Sunlight pictures because gotta see those colours!

He looks as amazing as ever lol. I still think it is a male :joy:.

The real question here is what is the other Amel going to be? That’s a factor.

Here’s a video of the very pretty baby shedding. Ignore my loud as heck AC. You get a better idea of the way the saddles & sides are lightened, almost as if they were a bit sun-bleached.

Yeah, I see that. That is super interesting.

Nice to see them doing so well! Especially Leaky, lol. You might candling your Amels for gender while you wait for DNA. It’s kinda fun.

Those split belly checkers are often seen with Masque. Used to be referred to as a “het marker” for Diffusion, before it was understood that Masque and Diffusion were often found together. Males often show greater expression. You’ve got one parent who’s ph Diffusion. No way to be certain without a breeding trial but I’m guessing that ph is likely het, and this little one may be, too.
