I dont know Mochi’s exact birthday, so i made her one, and its coming up this summer. What can i get her as a present? Are there foods that ball pythons can eat other than rats and should i get her that, or should i just get her some new decorations for her enclosure? Any other recommendations? Have a good day/night :>
Depending on the size of your BP you could offer a Quail, but there’s no guarantee that she will take it if she’s used to eating rats. You might be able to find them f/t from online suppliers, they may just be a bit more costly.
But if you aren’t comfortable with that you can go ahead and get her some enclosure enrichment ![]()
Unfortunately ball pythons can be very picky. I have seen BPs refuse a certain color or sizes of rodent. One of mine only eats when I leave the prekill prey for her overnight. I have one girl who only ate mice until at 4 years old she laid eggs and will take rats now.
Once read a post about someone who had to breed hamsters because after giving the BP one they decided to only eat hamsters.
So there’s a chance that Mochi may not eat it…or have a hunger for more.
I absolutely try to give enrichment in foods to my Retics cause they’re just dumpsters when it comes to mealtime…but for BPs it can be tough. My Leopard geckos get occasional pinky mice or silkworms as treats
Cage enrichment is absolutely an easier option. I got one of mine their own hol-ee roller recently and they love it.
If I were you I would choose enrichment over quail any day because if your BP is eating consistently it would not be wise to take the chance that she may decide she likes quail better and then become a picky eater. Ball pythons can become picky/finicky eaters for no reason anyway so why risk good luck so far……
As I’ve learned, ball pythons are the dramatic toddlers of snakes. Give them fancy food, they’ll either hate it and not eat anything for a month or they’ll love it and refuse EVERYTHING else except that fancy food item. And a gazillion other possibilities in between. Coming from someone who has a toddler niece and lovely toddler nephew with ASD
I recommend a new enclosure decoration that they can play with, that’s the easy way to get a snake a birthday present ![]()
Thanks everyone! Sorry for the late reply i kinda forgot that i posted LOL, I’ll get her just some enrichment! Have a good rest of your day y’all! ![]()
I think you’ve gotten great ideas, and enrichment options are totally wonderful. BUT. I have to say, your thread title blew me away.
My cat’s name is Mochi, and her birthday is this Friday! My Mochi is turning 13. ![]()
