What new reptiles have you bought recently? 2.0

Oh wow, congrats! I love love love womas, I actually briefly toyed with getting a woma instead of a blood python (don’t tell Mina). I love their little eyebrow markings!

They’re still a species I’d love to keep some day. I’m a little jealous! But very happy and excited for you, Duncan is gorgeous. And I love the name. I knew a super cool horse named Duncan, so I’ve liked that name ever since.

@caron oof …he’s so sick. His pattern/coloring is amazing. I can’t wait for you to post more pictures of him!

These two arrived on Wednesday. Female albino and male normal het albino florida pine snake (p. m. mugitis). Adult albino FL pines develop an almost entirely white base with deep red to purple saddle markings. The red variant looks quite festive come holiday season!

The normal male has a really cool pink hue all over his body. The pink combined with the muddy base color gives him a really cool bronze/copper color that’s tough to capture in pictures. His pattern in the top third of his body has an air brushed looked to it which is also cool looking but I think a lot of that pattern will fade as he ages.

These two are also the offspring of a snow female. There’s still some debate on whether snow in FL pines is a combo of albino/hypo or albino/axanthic. I think axanthic is more likely. Anyway, assuming that it behaves in a recessive manner like axanthic does in other pituophis species, these two are het albino and axanthic/hypo (het snow) also.

Male

Female (Albino)

Congratulations on two more lovely animals, @eorr53 ! The collection-building is really coming along nicely. Do these two have names yet?

Thanks! Got all the pines except Northerns because as a state protected species I can’t own them here in NC.

Nope, no names yet. The female (albino) is a feisty little thing. The male is pretty calm though. I don’t have names yet for the LA Pines (ruthveni) either.

The new hypo red bulls are Pele (female) and Vulcan (male). The new red hypo stillwater male is Johnny for Johnny Blaze and Johnny Storm, Ghost Rider and The Human Torch respectively, from Marvel Comics.

Love these! My wife and I have been obsessed with Pine Snakes and Bull Snakes which from everything that i understand they’re very closely related? I could be wrong. Haha

But yeah I’m like 100000% positive that we’re gonna purchase a Bullsnake very soon

Or how @spottedbull David puts it…I kinda got the green light :joy::rofl:

Love the themes on the names you have. Funnily enough, we just watched “Rise of the Silver Surfer” a few days ago for the first time in a lot of years.

Is this new female likely to calm down with age and handling, or does this species retain a dash of spice? I know that various rat snake species have varied general dispositions (with individual variation, of course). I assume that’s true for line snakes but I don’t know anything about what would be expected.

PS - @bryanf88, oh yeah, go with that kinda green light! Quickly!

@caryl Thanks! I like to think I’m clever. Not sure if others agree. :joy:

These are my first FL pines so I can’t speak from experience but my impression from discussions with other keepers is FL pines are no more defensive than other pituophis species. I think they have a rep for being the “spiciest” of the pine snakes. We’ll see how she does in a few days when I try handling her again. I want to get a meal in them before I try handling them. Feeding day is tomorrow, so mid-week I’ll give it a go.

My nasty male black pine has begun to settle a lot. The last few handling sessions he’s let me pick him up out of his tub w/o the hook. No hissing or striking while being held. He’s still pretty squirmy and you can tell he’s uncomfortable, but I am pretty happy with the progress we’ve made since he arrived in August. I feel confident I can get the little female FL pine to relax in a few weeks.

@bryanf88 Yes, they are very similar. I think on average bulls get a little larger than pines but they are plenty of 6’+ pines out there. Care wise they are pretty identical as well. If you are trying to choose between the two, I think it really comes down to what look you prefer more. Bulls usually have a more uniform/clean pattern and come in a wider variety of colors and morphs. Pines have more mottled patterns usually but overall morphology can vary significantly within a particular subspecies and even localities. I couldn’t choose between the two so I just got them all. :joy:

Well, I finally get to post a new snake in this post. And it is not one I produced. My friend gave me this corn snake this morning when I was picking up a few live mice. I told him a few weeks ago I was maybe interested in getting one. All you corn snake people here have rubbed off on me. I love the color and pattern on this little guy.

This is the parents to this little guy.

@tommccarthy That’s a nice one, Tom! Welcome to the colubrid club.

Have you thought about how many corn snakes you could fit in the space it takes for one adult boa? :joy:

Hooray for another new snake for you, @tommccarthy! What a gorgeous little corn he is, too!

Congratulations on that, too!

I love boas more so i would never give up any boa space. I have around 40 boa’s now. Come spring i will have to make room for about 10 new boas.

That’s a whole bunch of boas! And more to come, so exciting. I really do think boas are cool. I don’t have the physical wherewithal to deal with one, but I surely do enjoy looking at other folks’ boas.

Yeah like @caryl said, I can’t handle long large snakes anymore but I do love boas and I do miss the ones I had. Especially Red, he was so sweet. :weary:

Today I put down the deposit on a dream reptile of mine: a Northern Blue Tongued Skink :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: I’ve wanted one for awhile, but always had this notion they were super tricky to care for. When I actually sat down and did research it sounds like they’re less intensive than my Ball Pythons XD Her name is Sausage and I’m picking her up on December 29th! Wondering if I wanna give her a monicker or not, all of my pets are named after a fandom (Atlas, Astrid, and Hiccup) or after someone (Aster, named for John Jacob Astor, richest man on the Titanic cause I’m a huge Titanic history nerd XD). But I’m like, oddly attached to the idea of keeping her name as just ‘Sausage’ lol!! Got stuff for her enclosure (and the the enclosure itself) on the way already~
Speaking of my pythons, my boy Atlas is finally getting his PVC enclosure thanks to Dubia’s sales. My poor boy is so finicky with his eating that I hope getting him into a nice PVC where his parameters can be held more stable than a glass terrarium will help him out.

@surgeons-serpents hope you put up pictures for this sick sounding Skink when you pick him up!!

I actually kind of love the name Sausage for a BTS. And I’m not normally big on food names (I tend to give my animals super pretentious names from literature and mythology because I’m a pseudo-intellectual geek ), but for such an adorably ridiculous animal, I think Sausage totally works. :joy:
