That photo is a bit washed out, they’re more reddish and the outlines tan. He’ll probably change some as he ages, however he’s my first Cinder combo so this is new territory for me! I’ve found a few pictures elsewhere of Ultra/Ultramel Cinders, but not a ton. So excited to see how his color develops and what he ends up looking like at adult size.
I took my son to the All American Reptile & Plant Expo in Charlotte yesterday. It’s new show circuit and I think this was only the second show they’ve held so far. It was a lot better than the regular Repticon show we have a few times a year. It was still heavy on ball pythons, hognoses, corn snakes, and crested geckos, but it had a much a better variety of colubrids than we normally see.
There were some cribos and carinata that were really tempting but I had to hold off on those because today I was picking up these little beauties.
Male
Female
These are Louisiana Pine Snakes. They are considered one of, if not the, rarest snakes in North America. There numbers in the wild are estimated at only a few hundred due to habitat loss. I am really excited to be adding this unrelated pair to my collection. They were produced by Michael Coone, the same gentleman that produced my Black Pines. I’m excited for the opportunity to (hopefully) help keep these amazing animals in the hobby.
I got drive up to Michael’s place today to hand pick them which was a really cool experience. I got to handle some of Michael’s breeder animals, including the mother of the female.
I think these two are going to end up looking like their mothers (pictured below). The male has a yellow hue already with some pink and orange highlights on his sides. I think he will turn yellow as he ages. The female has a really stunning pattern and the bars on her tail are really cool looking.

They are huge for hatchlings and incredibly calm. The female hatched out at 92g! Here is a picture of one of her siblings with a hatchling corn snake for comparison. Little monsters!

Ok, I’ll stop rambling now.
Well something tells me you are over the “Rona” with all this traveling around!
Congratulations on those gorgeous pines! What a fantastic experience to be able to actually hand pick the babies you wanted as well as meet the breeder! What a meaningful project to embark on as well! Fingers crossed for great success!
Nice pick up. Like the head pattern on the first one.
Thanks! I think his markings will stay nice and dark with the black “spreading” some in the top third of his body. Should look really good over top of the yellow base.
They are simply stunning!! Also, not what I would expect to see at a plant expo! Okay, Reptile and Plant Expo. It’s very cool that hobby breeders are helping with a species whose population is in low numbers in the wild. Do they stay calm as adults?
So the pines aren’t from the expo, I was just prefacing the story with not being able to act on my impulses while at the show.
I did see Michael at the show but we had planned several weeks ago to meet on Sunday. I actually reached out to him last winter about getting on his list for the upcoming season, so we’ve been in touch for a while. I think the long wait for them made it an even more rewarding/special experience.
The first snake I kept growing up was a northern pine snake, so pines are special to me. I can’t keep the northern ssp in NC because they are protected by the state. Being able to get both a pair of unrelated black pines and a pair of unrelated louisiana pines in the span of several weeks is really awesome.
Now I just gotta find these FL pines I’ve been hunting, but I’m okay waiting for the right ones. I actually spoke with someone at the show on Saturday that has the particular line I am looking for but his pairings were unsuccessful this past season. We are going to stay in touch for 2025. Probably for the best. My QT space is almost maxed out at the moment.
I got this trio of hatching corns a little while ago from Chris Nicholas. One male and three female are siblings, Lavender het Amel, Lava. The other is a male Peach Plasma Tessera het Amel, Hypo. Little Enide is a real sweetheart! Tor and Marrock have called down quite a bit with gentle handling.
Oooooooh!!! I see more spectacular clutches in the future! Stay tuned everyone!!!
Those babies are incredible @Caryl! Marrock is such a beautiful golden boy! But all are superb!
Thanks, so do I - in the distant future. Maybe 2026 for the boys. Enide won’t be a mama before 2027.
Massive thanks to @graysnake for letting this male go and sending him my way!! Can’t wait to see what I’m able to produce with him in the very near future.
Chocolate enchi double het hypo clown proven breeder male. Snagged a few very quick photos before I put him away, but just look at how incredible he looks.
Edit to add: my lighting sucks in my reptile room. The colors in these photos don’t do him justice. Once he settles in, I’ll get some outdoor photos!
More new snakes! Right on.
@caryl Lovely little bunch of corns you got there. I think Enide is my favorite.
@nswilkerson1 I don’t know much about ball python genetics but I can totally sympathize on the snake room/indoor lighting. My snake room lights are super bright which is great for me but terrible for my iPhone camera. I’m thinking about installing a dimming light switch to see if that helps.
Congratulations Nathan! I can almost see the grin on your face! He is indeed a trophy, one big handsome healthy hunk of an animal! But of course he is because he came from @graysnake Bill Palaski!
I still need to post my little Enchi girl from Bill!
Definitely grateful for Bill and his incredible animals. Now I’ve got the dad to how many of yours? 3 right? Haha
Yup! That’s correct! And I love all 3!
Big congrats on a big, hunk of beautiful there,
@nswilkerson1! I’m sure you have plans for that boy. I think we all sympathize with the lighting issues. It’s real challenge.
Congrats again!
Thank you, @eorr53. Don’t tell the boys, but I think Enide is my favorite, too. I just love her sweet, curious personality. She finds the world and its humans interesting, which I find interesting. If I were still teaching, she would be headed to the classroom.
