I’m curious why people share a photo of a gecko’s clutchmate and say it’s a ‘clutchmate of X.’ Does having a certain clutchmate guarantee the gecko will grow up looking like it, or does it ensure good genetics?

I cannot say why for others who do this since breeders have their own reasons or methods for what they do, but I personally do this for a few reasons:
A. Crested Geckos lay clutches in pairs of 2, so I just like having clutchmates side by side to show and compare their appearance.
B. It shows their lineage and relation, since Crestie traits are polymorphic, their offspring can hatch out as a variety of different colors/patterns, unlike true “morphs” that can guarantee the appearance of offspring (ex: visual Leucism or Axanthics). So it helps to clarify that 2 different in appearance Cresties are related. To answer your question:

Possibly, there is also body structure at play (crest width, dorsal stripe thickness, general physical build). If siblings and parents share good body structure it can show that young offspring, that has not yet physically matured, will also have good structure. Good structure is sought after in breeding Cresties, poor structure is undesirable and is labeled as “pet quality”.
