I’ve bought a few females as hatchlings that I’m growing out for a few different projects. I bought them at around 100-120 grams and their weights are currently between 400-600 grams. If I’m planning to purchase hatchling males to pair them with when should I start shopping for my males?
If the females you have are 2021 hatchlings, then I would wait and buy 2022 males. I basically purchase my males one year after my females. Assuming everyone stays on track with feeding, when the females hit their third year and hopefully around 1500 grams, your males should easily be pushing between 800 and 1,000 grams. You should be in good shape to breed them without fear of them going off feed and spiraling down because they are small.
