Hello there! I am a new member of the forums. It’s a pleasure to meet all of you. Let me cut to the chase with my situation here.
I am looking for a new pet lizard. I have narrowed my search down to Jeweled Lacertas, Ackie Monitors, possibly a female Black and White Argentine Tegu, or another Bearded Dragon.
I have already researched care requirements, expenses, etc… Though, I don’t believe I can do too much research, haha. That’s why I am here. I am looking for anyone to share their pros and cons of the species, inform me of their experience keeping these lizards, and update me on any unexpected costs, or just monthly upkeep for the reptiles. Also, if you have any questions to ask me, fire away!

Honestly I don’t hear as much about the Lacertas mentioned often and they’re a pretty little species if you end up going all out on the enclosure. Can make a really nice display as well as rewarding critter.
Ackies are a nice step up from Beardies and can offer a step into the mind of a monitor without having to jump up in size too much like the Tegu. They can also offer a neat little enclosure option if you went with them. Tegus are awesome just so much larger that a display build can be a lot to handle.
So if it was my choice, I’d go with the lacerta or ackie
Though I will also suggest if you do end up deciding on Tegu, they are a species that gets misunderstood and rehomed, so you could also consider checking if there’s one up for rescue/adoption as well. That option is also there for beardies obviously since they’re more common as well if you wanted to do something like a second chance for an animal.

Personally, if it were me, I’d go with the ackie as well. They’re such cool little lizards and like armiyana said, a nice step into monitors without the huge size they can get. I have a friend who used to keep ackies and I loooooooved taking care of them when she was out of town.

I’d probably go with the ackie or the tegu. Just becomes a question of how big you want to go.
They’re not on your list, but have you considered frilled dragons? They’re super cool and very underrated in my opinion. Just throwing it out there.
