Just something I was wondering about while holding my crestie today. It doesn’t seem like the tiny toes have any claws on them.

I’ve noticed it also, maybe it’s a geckos version of a thumb (but in all feet) and they don’t need the claw there as it’s tiny?

Maybe its like how a dog has dewclaws sometimes or how us humans get wisdom teeth even though our jaws are smaller than some of the earlier hominid species in our lineage. Like a vestigial remnant of something once used but not anymore and evolution just hasn’t gotten rid of it yet.

Maybe it’s because when they jump they spread their legs wide… If they had claws on those front toes it might get damaged when they try to land?
