I think because they are elitist and put their beliefs over what the animal actually needs.
They take a tiny bit of information, they seen a ball python in the tree in Africa so they must love to climb. Most any animal will climb if it needs too, who knows why it was seen there, the vast majority are dug up out of holes in the ground. They seem to prefer dark warm places, look at where they hide when they are lost out of their enclosure, always dark areas, may not be warm but its almost always dark. In my experience, i take them out for enrichment, they always look for a dark hole.
Tanks especially are very difficult to maintain the husbandry you need for this species. Tanks are for fish not reptiles. I use racks because i can keep them temperature and humidity much better then i can in any box enclosure. I also notice a difference in how consistently in eating between the snakes that are in a clear container and a solid gray. The ones in a solid gray are much faster and much more reliable to eat then any of them in a clear tub.
I had one, i couldnt get to eat for anything, nothing i did worked, i didnt have the solid gray tubs at the time. I sent him to live with my friend, who has a dark tub for him and bam its one of his best eaters.
Box enclosures isnt best for every species. I use one for my Dumerils, he has climbing ability in it, never ever seen him use it. He always buries himself under the fake grass.
