Hi! I took Jasper out today and I noticed her right eye looks much darker than her left eye. I’m very concerned and cannot find a good answer anywhere on google. Here are some pictures of her eye… I shined it in the light and the pupil dilates just fine. I’m not sure what it could be. Please help!!
I’d take caution with this and keep a close eye on it, the eyes don’t only look different in color but they are also different sizes.
Might need a reptile specialized veterinarian’s opinion on this… do you suspect she may have injured herself somehow? Sometimes differences in eye size can mean fluid buildup behind one of the eyes or infection which can be serious. How has her behavior been? Appetite? Energy? Is there anything in her enclosure she can possibly harm herself on?
I’ll get @ghoulishcresties @autumngeckos in here for their opinions…
Her energy has definitely been fine, but I have noticed shes been jumping around her tank a lot so it is possible she could have injured it. I have been a little worried about her appetite, she’s been eating but not as much as I’ve seen in the past. Her behavior has been consistent with how she’s acted in the past, pretty laid-back.
edit: I just gave her some food and she ate all of it, it was a good amount and so her appetite is definitely okay.
The darker eye does look possibly slightly sunken. Could be slight dehydration or an injury like you mentioned, or it could be nothing, maybe she had just woken up? Their eyes can also change colour throughout the day, though ive mainly seen it in hatchlings/younger geckos, and it usually has to do with the time of day + happens in both eyes. Since she’s doing well otherwise, I wouldn’t be too worried for now, just make sure she’s well hydrated, and keep an eye on it ![]()
Okay! Thank you!
