Continuing from my previous thread, since it has gotten a bit long.
Latest update is the garters are still growing. Haven’t been feeding them as often due to some other things going on, but they’re still gaining weight.
Today’s big news is that the last of my tank snakes are now all set up in the basement with fresh substrate! Gotta finish cleaning their decor, but everyone is very happy to have the ability to dig again.
Discovered a bit of a snafu today. Turns out the garter baby I thought was number 5 is actually number 11, and vice versa. Going through and correcting my records, it seems like the confusion started (at least looking at weights) on June 28th, right before I separated everyone by size. I had wondered why the photo didn’t quite match, now I know. Will likely be taking updated photos of neck patterns now so I can better distinguish them from eachother.
I’ve thankfully never had much issue with corns because I get headstamp photos immediately after they hatch, but with no headstamp on a garter, I’m basically just going by neck patterns. Since I took photos right after they were born, the patterns on the albinos were very faint and hard to see, which is why those two ended up mixed up. I’ve gotten everything corrected, and now that they’re older, the new photos should have a lot more contrast to work with.
I love learning from all your routines. I just found a pic of Toyota when he was pipping out of the egg and was able to recognize him by the head stamp. I’m so glad you have all taught me to do this so carefully.
Today was a weigh and photograph day. Everyone now has updated pattern photos so I can ID more easily. Weights in the little kids bin were 4g - 5.1g, and the big kids were 5.2g - 6.3g. I find it so interesting that the weight difference between the largest and smallest in both bins is 1.1g.
Both bins are free fed a “plate” of chopped pinkies, everyone gets to eat as much as they want. The bin of smaller snakes usually has more leftovers than their larger counterparts.
