A surprise and a mystery!

Pua is a precious little angel! What a little fighter too! And that video! Is that little guy playing dead?

Yes! I think it’s a girl, and she was not thrilled at being picked up. My first baby after three years to play dead

Pua ate last night. He didn’t eat the first time it was offered last week so I feel better now that he has taken his first meal. It’s definitely going to be a learning curve because I accidentally brought the pinky over on his blind side and scared him :persevere: but thankfully he ate after I left.

The double clutch hatched last week and another 3 mystery babies came out. Including C’thun from last year and the single one from May that makes a total of 5, and all of them are male.

I’m starting to wonder if this mutation may be sex-linked, but I’m not very well versed in genes like that. All of them will be staying with me until I get a clutch from C’thun next year. He just hit 45g so I’m hopeful he will have a good growth spurt and be up to the task next season. He will be going to Bellatrix an Albino Conda. She’s on the smaller side for a female, but quite opinionated and sassy so I hope he isn’t too intimidated

In other news Pua is doing great! He’s had 9 consecutive meals and has been gaing confidence taking from the tongs. I’ve been slowing introducing the pinky on his blind side so that he can learn to compensate with smell. It seems to be working. Initially he would just go in a circle chasing the pinky on his seeing side, and now he can actually follow it head on or even from the blind side. Im super proud of him!

If you just so happen to decide you definitely don’t have room for one of these funky looking babies, I’d be happy to house them in my reptile room for you. Ya know, just to look at them and appreciate them lol.

Awesome babies though, hope you can prove something cool and new out with this!

Oh man Nathan! What a “burden” that would be on you!:joy:

Congratulations to you for those stunning mystery babies! You are quite the breeder of hoggies! If I didn’t already have one….

Wow I can’t believe it’s been almost two years since I started this thread! Hopefully 2025 is the year for good stuff!
This season I paired C’thun and Bellatrix in hopes of learning more about this gene. Right from the start C’thun was infatuated with Bellatrix but it took him seven weeks to figure things out. To my knowledge they only had one lock on 3/18 and after that he lost interest so I decided to give them a break. I do believe Bellatrix is gravid and she is currently in blue. Hopefully a prelay shed but she always has a shed early in gestation so I expect it will still be another 2.5-3 weeks until she lays.
With them having only had one lock I’m on the fence whether she has slugs, used retained sperm from last year or if C’thun did get it done. I’m really excited to find out.
In the spirit of transparency I am nervous about this clutch though. Two of the four mystery babies from last year developed kinks and I am concerned it may be related to the mutation. I really hope to prove that wrong with this pairing.
And because no post is complete without pictures, here are some recent ones of C’thun.

My phone is awful and I keep failing to get accurate pictures of his color but he is just so cool to look at in person.

And another of the two lovebirds because just look at how stinking cute they are :sob:
Lastly, a bonus pic of Fleur, C’thun’s mom, who laid a perfect clutch of twelve this morning.

Bellatrix shed four days ago on Sunday. Historically she has laid 9-11 days post shed so that will put her at laying mid next week if she follows the same pattern. Yesterday I gave her a special treat of a reptilink. I love seeing her little piggy face chowing down.

To clarify for the community, we don’t typically allow any feeding pictures to be posted, but this is an alternative food source that doesn’t involve feeding whole prey and still meets all the nutritional requirements of the animal.

Well I am super disheartened now. Bellatrix was due to lay 2-2.5 weeks ago. I took her to the vet on day 19 post shed. We started calcium injections but otherwise she didn’t seem ready to lay. Still eating, acting normal and the eggs were nowhere near her vent yet. She went blue again early this week and since Tuesday has been randomly laying 1-2 eggs a day. So far we are at seven and every one is infertile. Some are shelled but still kind of rubbery and I don’t see any veins. I’m so very disappointed because I’ve been looking forward to this clutch for almost two years, but I’m glad at least she is finally making progress as I was getting really worried. I’m hoping this was just a fluke and not an indication of C’thun’s fertility, or lack thereof.

Fleur and Neville’s 2026 clutch is hatching. These are full siblings to C’thun. So far there are two axanthic condas, one axanthic, three normal condas, three normals, one albino conda (I think), annnndddd a mutation albino! I’m 98% positive it is. There is one egg left to pip, I wonder what it will be

This is a wonderful pick me up after Bellatrix slugging out. Thankfully she laid the remainder without issue and is doing great now. Crossing my fingers next season is better for her.

OOOH so excited to see the albino version of the funky gene you seem to have found!!

Congratulations to you @ghsaltie Erin! Some super news after the disappointment! I think last year you had a couple surprises as well ?

And this year a possible mutation! That’s stupendous Erin! Can’t wait to see what you have after the shells settle!:heart:
