The hypo triple het male shed today. Not sure if it will show once these have been uploaded, but he definitely has a green hue to him. Interested to see what kind of looks he produces in VPI Snows. He has his very own GF coming in a few weeks, so hopefully we find out next season.

They are so beautiful . Can’t wait to see how them and the rest of the babies look after a shed or two!

Hi @eorr53

He is nice looking and looking forward to seeing his girlfriend. Can’t wait to see their babies in a few years. VPI snow’s are very nice looking

I know what you mean about getting the green to show up. I don’t see it in your pictures. My motley jungle KoKo has a green tint to her, too, and it never shows up in pictures. She is not related to any of the gamma green boas.

Is your male a het anery? As I see brown in his tail saddles after his vent.

Yes, he is het VPI, Anery T1, and Leopard.

The upload process on this site always seems to reduce color on pictures. At least that’s been my experience.

Hey guys, the time has come for me to get serious about ordering stuff for Lenore’s permenant adult setup. Which means I’m also getting serious about agonizing over and second-guessing every purchase decision, because that’s how I roll. :joy: But I could use some feedback/recommendations on some stuff.

I’ve decided to go with a 6x2x2 cage (unless there’s a better size I should consider…?). I’m mainly looking at Black Box and Animal Plastics. Any other PVC cage makers I should be considering?

I’m going to use RHP for heat. What would be a good size to order for that size cage, keeping in mind the room its in will often drop below 70F at night? Is there a single size that would be powerful enough, or will I need 2 RHPs?

I’d like to collect some driftwood from the beach and use it in her enclosure. What do I need to do to prepare wood collected off the beach? Also, does it matter what kind of wood it is? We have a lot of eucalyptus trees on the bluffs above our beaches. As the bluffs erode over time, the trees fall onto the beach and I suspect this is the source of much of the driftwood I see. Is eucalyptus safe once it’s been through the driftwood laundry cycle? I know eucalyptus has a lot of oils and such that are toxic to many animals, not sure if that’s something I should worry about.

As always, thanks in advance for indulging my need to overthink everything. :joy:

I can’t help with wood preparation (although I believe baking wood for long enough and then sealing it will kill any baddies and then waterproof it), but I will say that some beach/coastline/riparian areas have really strict limits on how much driftwood can be taken, if any at all. In some places removal of driftwood is highly illegal, so I’d make sure you are safe there first.

I saw some people wheel a big wagon full of driftwood right past a ranger yesterday and the ranger didn’t stop them. So either the ranger was asleep at the switch, or it’s kosher to collect driftwood from that beach. :person_shrugging: But I’ll make it a point to ask a ranger next time I get the chance.

(In fact, seeing this is what made me go “Hrmm, maybe I should also be doing that!” :joy:)

Ha! To be fair if I saw someone with a wagon of branches and sticks I’d absolutely go nuts doing the same too :joy: :joy:

I’m discovering that for enclosures this large, the sticker price on the cage itself is only the beginning of the expense. AP wants to charge me nearly $450 just for shipping. Black Box just quoted me $530 for shipping. :sob:

All of a sudden, the companies with higher sticker prices but free shipping are looking like a better deal. Zen has free shipping, but I don’t like that they only offer screen tops. Kages offers free shipping, but don’t seem to have the add-ons I wanted from AP.

Why does this have to be so complicated? :weary:

I’m lucky I found a sorta local guy that makes the bigger enclosures so I can go pickup and not pay shipping. And the prices are great too.

Check out Boaphile. The shipping is included in the price

Personally…I love AP….they have thicker PVC so the enclosures are going to warp with time. I would go with them….also….you don’t have to go with a 6’….4x2x2 is good but I understand the want to go bigger.

@jawramik Definitely 4x2x2 is plenty large enough

Boaphile cages look awesome, but I wish they were taller. The tallest is 17.5", which I’m sure is tall enough, but it’s not my vision. :joy:

I get it! :+1:

I did find a cage company in California. Their website sucks, though I suppose that doesn’t mean their enclosures do.

I love the AP cage I have. I was about to pull the trigger and buy it, then almost died when I saw the shipping price. Though after poking around with some other companies, it’s looking like AP’s shipping fees are still lower than most.

I know I could go smaller on the size, but I want to be able to give her some space to move and climb. And then I can have a snake pyramid in my room, with the three enclosures of varying sizes stacked biggest to smallest.

Well, I went ahead and ordered a 5’x2’x2’ enclosure from Animal Plastics. Going a foot shorter made a huge difference with shipping, it was like a quarter of the shipping price. I think it’s a reasonable compromise, and I can still build my snake pyramid.
