I just can’t get over how pink these two babies are. They haven’t even had their first shed yet. I will probably keep these two unless my other female has better-looking babies. I think she will, so I am going to have some hard decisions to make.

I’m stuck in the ‘I’m finally living alone but in a pet-free apartment building’ phase, which is even worse because I’m sooooo close to having a snake, its just out of reach because the landlords don’t want pets, ahg! :sob:

Weirdly difficult sometimes! Some pet friendly apartments specificy only cats and dogs, no rodents, reptiles, or fish - its super annoying!

Try looking for a house rent or buy a small one that needs work. It’s easier to own reptiles in a house than an apartment.

My first house was small and needed a lot of work. Only paid 22,000 for it. Sold it 6 years later for 55,000.

My son just bought a house and has two renters living with him. Between all of them, they have 4 dog, turtles, and fishs and he plans on taking my retic this summer.

Absolutely going to try to transition to a house as soon as possible, for several reasons including pets. A cute starter home just sold near me for $220,000 which is super cheap these days ( :sob: :sob:) so maybe it’ll be possible for me and my partner some day

Yeah, the housing market makes it a bit harder to do… I’m hoping to find something that I can work with, especially since my dad is pretty handy and would probably be pretty willing to help me out

Man, a “starter home” in my town is $900k. And that’s for a condo. If you want a free-standing house where you don’t have to share walls, I doubt you could find a tear-down for under a million. I wish I was joking. :weary:

I’ve made my peace with the fact I will never own a home. If I ever decided to get serious about buying a home, I wouldn’t be able to do that here. I’d have to move, either inland or out of state, and I don’t want to do that. My life is here, my family is here, and for someone as nature-oriented as me, Santa Barbara is pretty hard to beat. Mountains on one side, ocean on the other, and weather that’s mild enough to enjoy both year-round.

But hey, my housemate just left, so if anyone needs a reptile-friendly room to rent in SoCal, I’ve got you covered! :joy:

Yeah, I recently had to find a new doctor because my old one couldn’t afford to live here. Same thing happened with my dad’s dentist. (I’m sure they could technically afford to live here, but I’m guessing they just couldn’t afford the sort of lifestyle they pictured when they took out all those loans for med school. :joy:)

SoCal (well probably CA in general) coastal housing costs are no joke, that’s for sure! Specially with all those homes that burnt and those individuals now buying up nearby property (if lucky enough to be in the position to do so). We bought a small home before covid and were stressed about what we were getting for the costs then. There is no way we could afford to buy in todays market which is such a shame for new home buyers. CA is a great place for it’s climate for sure. I do feel like it’s “working class” really takes a back seat to just about everyone and everything else though. Hopefully something will come about to help new home buying citizens that doesn’t involve just building more multi-home units, ect. Power costs are nuts, I’m breaking down my reef tank due to a couple consecutive $800/m e-bills. I mean that could be a mortgage on it’s own in some parts of this country :slight_smile: It’s more hustle than play in the SoCal life for sure!

Please never apologize for sharing photos of your beautiful boas! I like checking my computer and finding a treasure trove of snake pictures to look through.

@indiflare @cmills I feel your pain about trying to find a pet-friendly place to live (and honestly just a place to live, period). I’m in my mid-20s and have no idea where I’ll be 6 months from now, so no boa for me until I’m settled :, (. In the meantime I’ll continue to live vicariously through everyone else on this forum!

We’ve really lucked out with timing for the two times we’ve been in the market for a new home. The first time was 2010 when things when were still rebounding from 2008. We bought again in Spring 2020 right after COVID hit but before the market went crazy. We moved out of the DC area because we couldn’t afford a single family home unless we moved 1.5-2 hrs outside the immediate metro area and we weren’t trying to spend 3+ hrs a day commuting. Our new home in NC has increased so much in value since we bought 5-years ago (combined with current interest rates) we wouldn’t be able to afford it now. We’ve been very fortunate but I really do feel for people trying to get established in this current market.
