and I wanted to know if this is a good baseline to go off of for the breeding schedule… I only have the one female and male that are RTB so I’m not planning on any huge projects right now, just want to get the experience under my belt and see what they produce. My main concerns for this is mostly the temps, I’ve had breeders differ in saying whether or not BP’s need a cooling phase but anyway if someone has anything to add or change about this feel free!
I still love Nobara’s name and her looks.
Justin’s timeline is pretty much on the nose for northern hemisphere. A lot of breeders follow something similar or just directly follow this for reference.
I personally never change my temps on my snakes, but the room temperature overall does get cooler in the winter so they probably do notice that slight bit of change in their ambient temps even if the hot spot stays the same. I’m in So Cal, so it never really gets that much colder.
The biggest tip I picked up and have used is when you go to pair them, give the female’s tub a bit of a misting ahead of time, and especially try to pair them on rainy days. The pressure changes can help with some stubborn breeders, I’ve had a couple who hadn’t bred until the first time I was able to pair them with a rainy day. Just sets the mood I guess.
Hi and welcome.
Mine breed when they want although most start in autumn and I dont change temps.
I prefer to do it when they want so I get a couple of clutches 6 months before the others.
The point @armiyana makes is a good one. The low pressure during rain seems to help, with or without rain I find. However, I do spray to simulate rain and raise the humidity a bit.
I usually check this. just set it for your area:
This guy has some good videos on identifying when a female is ready and receptive
Just one more point, sometimes even if the female is receptive they might not like the male. I had one male the female would not touch but she was happy with others. I now use more than one male due to this.
