He’s really handsome. Barney will be too, I’m sure! I’ll try and get better pics of these two in a couple days. I almost never re-introduce couples. I wasn’t actually sure anything would happen, especially since I never saw eveidence of a lock before.
What a pair! Sorry about clutch 1.
Thanks, Dean. I am thinking positive. I feel really badly about the clutch that went undiscovered. Revel is normally one of the “peer out and watch” types. Laying eggs and lying on them in a hide covered them effectively enough that Dan just didn’t see them.
Yeah those two are already “picture perfect” literally! Their babies I am positive will be stellar Caryl!
Oh my goodness @caryl! What a surprise! You’ve had so many disappointments this season…I really hope this double clutch knocks it out of the park for you.
They are a gorgeous pair!
Thanks, Caron and Natalie. I’m grateful for any healthy babies. Of course I hope we get plenty, and of course I’m disappointed that this season has been less than spectacular in terms of viable eggs but that happens with new mamas and papas. 2024 was a dream season here. I’m not complaining that 2025 is shaping up to be different. Appreciating the blessings I have.
Less snakes to move if you move this year too……
Yup! That has definitely crossed my mind.
It’s always nice to have eggs in the morning, right? Linette is laying a second clutch. Presumably this will be a small one. She and Beau were not re-paired after the first clutch. I didn’t especially want her to tax her resources this way but she evidently had her own plans. This morning there were two laid and at least one more nearby.
Oops more snakes to move! But congratulations anyway!!!
Lol actually that’s what I was thinking. But I guess it’s a problem I’ll take.
Yes ma’am I agree!
How far are you moving? Like across town or across states? I can’t imagine moving all the snakes stuff you have!!!
She’s moving much closer to me I hope! I can’t wait!!!
Trying very hard to move across states, from down here on the Gulf to Kentucky or possibly Indiana. That’s where most of the family is, I miss having four seasons, and I am soooo tired of hurricanes.
I vote INDIANA! Get your husband in gear!!! I can drive 90 minutes easily!!!
Linette finished up and is resting after a nice drink. I’ll offer her a snack tomorrow. There are two large, obviously fertile eggs. One other is smaller and has a much smaller red speck, so those three are being incubated. There were also four slugs. Pretty typical second clutch when the parents weren’t reintroduced/re-paired.
Since we’ve been discussing egg weights and such in Jess’s thread, I thought I’d weigh these. As the two largest are pretty firmly attached, I weighed them together. They’re much larger than the third which is being incubated, and much much larger than the obviously infertile ones.
The egg in the picture looks like Pickle’s egg!!!
It’s really pretty wild how much variance there is in sizes. Shapes, too. I’ve had my corns lay huge eggs, small eggs, oblong eggs, roundish eggs, even one or two eggs which had a pointy end. And they all look like reptile eggs of other species. It’s wild.
