I peeked about 0430 and I haven’t gotten back to sleep. The baby is out! It’s mostly buried in moss. I only got a partial look because I didn’t want to get it out until the sun comes up so I can get a proper look. But it certainly looks like a dream came true! ![]()
Sounds promising! ![]()
It’s official! There’s one more fantastical, incredible, beautiful Strawberry Plasma Motley-Stripe in the world! I’m in love!
And a perfect mot as a bonus. Congrats Caryl!!
Thanks! He’s darn nearly perfect in every way. I wondered when I paired these parents if I might have to wait a few sheds to tell if any Motley-Stripes had Diffusion. Zero question in this case. He’s exactly what I hoped for. Only one good egg from that bloody coupling, but goodness, what a GOOD one!
What a stunner! Absolutely beautiful!
Thank you!!!
Oh my goodness! I’m so glad the odds gods were with you on that single egg! He’s going to be such a good daddy to so many beautiful babies in the future. Can’t think of many people I’d rather see get such a great baby!
Me either!!! Totally agreed!
If I could I would be jumping up and down right now but I can congratulate you here! That’s so so wonderful @caryl! You are such a wonderful person and I am so glad great things are happening for you! ![]()

Thank you so much for the kind words and for sharing in my joy! It really is a delight to know that there are wonderful people who truly do understand.

My newest boy shed yesterday. Of course, it’s super hard to capture his pinks and purples. His personality is just as sweet and calm and curious as anybody could wish.
We’ve got several running themes for names here. Usually our visual Strawberries get strawberry cultivar names, Lavenders get Arthurian names. When an animal crosses more than one theme, we pick usually something from one or the other. This guy is both Strawberry and Lavender but nothing I tried seemed to fit until I tried something totally different.
If you’ve spent time in the South, or in the woods in much of the country, you’re probably familiar with muscadine grapes. They’re native to North America and different from European grapes. They’ve been useful for, helpful to, cultivated by humans for centuries. The skins have various colors, including tones and tints much like this handsome boy. I planted muscadine vines here years ago and have thoroughly enjoyed them. I was picking some after this baby hatched and it just seemed like Muscadine was a perfect name for him. Dan totally agreed, and didn’t like any other suggestion. So he’s Muscadine. Maybe he’ll found a whole new, distinctive line here. (Fingers crossed that he’s happy about meals when he gets his first offering!)
He is literally out of this world Caryl! The name suits him so well too! This is probably a once in a lifetime occurrence I believe. So glad it happened to you!
PS. Miss Bexli is settling in nicely! She is a cutie! ![]()
Thanks, dear lady! I think you’re right about getting such a handsome baby from a one-egg clutch. Hopefully he’ll be able to produce others with the genes and the look. He should. It’s rare but certainly not impossible. His mother is the same visual morph, though his Diffusion and color are better. She’s homozygous Motley whereas he’s Motley-Stripe. (Do I hope to see Strawberry Plasma Stripes one day? Heck, yeah!)
Glad that Miss Bexli is settling in with you. She’s one who would always come right out and onto a hand. You’ll enjoy each other!
Yep! She and Fay are 2 peas in a pod! ![]()
Edit to add! And that’s a big 10 4 on the strawberry plasma stripes one day for sure! ![]()
He’s fantastic!
He is really colorful already! Wow!
Thanks! I really couldn’t be happier with him at this point!

Duh! Yes you could! If you had TWO of him!!! ![]()
