Burn Injury Progress!

I wouldn’t know for sure, but me personally I wouldn’t put him back in until every open wound is 100% closed up and some amount of scales or skin replaces scabs. I’d be to paranoid about bedding scratching or getting into even a small wound.

I agree with @meerkatlyndz 100%. If he still has any open wounds of any size, he should not be on loose substrate or exposed to any rough surfaces such as rocks or pieces of wood.

I’d say wait until his wounds are totally closed up and after he sheds for the first time after being totally healed up. Just a extra precaution :slightly_smiling_face:

I’m amazed at how well he is healing. Those were some nasty burns. Good job helping him recover!

Teensy lil pic of the baby boy, since I’m basically just waiting for his next shed. Treatment as usual, so nothing new!

He really looks great now. I don’t even see the burns anymore, or are they out of sight?

Many are out of sight, the one on his neck is barely in picture. Not much has changed since his last shed

Things have been so perfect with this boy, everything is completely healed up and the scarring is just fine. And I get the feeling that he’d eat daily if he could, he takes rats like a champ.
I’m just wondering if he’ll ever grow scales over his scars again…?
Anyways he went back into his enclosure tonight and he’s doing one heck of an explore.

Hes sorta looking at you like “yeah back in Vietnam…”

He may or may not get scales over his scars. I have a python that was scarred by a skin infection. Two years later, she has grown back some but not all of her scales.

It’s changed somewhat drastically since the burn, so I hope he doesn’t “recognise” it all. Looking to get some more enrichment for him soon, but he seems to enjoy exploring and climbing when he’s not just chilling in his hides.

Yeah you definitely did a good job treating him. Had you not done everything you did for him he definitely would have perished. Glad to see him get back to his old self agian

Amazing job getting this dude back up to snuff. He’s looking great and the fact he’s pounding rats is an excellent sign

@thecrawdfather funny you commented, I was thinking of giving an update!

He’s in blue at the moment, this will be his 3rd proper shed since being burnt in December.
His skin is a little dry and flaky around the scars, but they’re completely sealed.

I don’t plan on disturbing him much during his shed cycle but I’ll definitely update after that :sparkles:

Since lots of people are against bulbs, how should I keep the ambient heat up in my tank? I would have to crank my heat mat up way to high in order to hit 80+ in my tank. I have a thermostat that regulates the heat pad at 90. Then I do use a heat bulb during the day but am a little concerned in doing so now. My guys tank is also a pretty big glass one, not a smaller plastic tub. Also side note I’m glad your scaled friend is doing so well!!

Wow. I have been checking this every so often since it was posted. Very awesome to see his healing process, wonderful job.

Awe poor baby I’m glad your noodle is getting better though

As for burns I personally have not burned an animal (other than myself) but working at an animal clinic I have seen one case in particular. I will hide the details so if you want to read about it go for it is not gruesome but I know not everyone likes to hear about it.

Summary

So a cat came in the clinic it was an emergency the owner spilled a poor of boiling water on the animal. This can lay half is fur and was admitted in the clinic in the day and stayed until we closed. The cat was given salves of wraps that was coated in honey that was applied to the burned flesh. The cat had to be sedated because the animal was in so much pain. I remember trying to hold him as the doctor lowered the cat in a solution of salt water to get the dead flash off and allow for healing. It was amazing watching that animal recover from an animal we thought wouldn’t make it to one that was much much better. Interesting fact did you know cats when severely burned their fur comes back white? I can’t give specifics about the patient because of AVMA code but what I can say is that cat made 100%recovery

I am sure your snake will do the same wroth enough love, care, and support ^^
