Does anyone have information or advice on Malagasy cat-eyed snakes? They’re a species I’ve been drawn to for some reason for some time now. I do believe that they are in my future in the next few years. Potentially may even try to produce them if things go well with them and I have the time. I’ve found some information on their care and breeding, found a paper that was really helpful, but I’d love to hear more from people who have experience with them. I just cannot get these guys out of my head, I need to know more, I gotta get a couple soon.

I don’t believe I have ever seen anyone posting anything about these guys here. I agree that they are really cool looking little snakes and I have tinkered with the idea of owning one but if I remember correctly they eat things other than FT rodents I believe? Also I think most on MM are wild caught which is a deal breaker for me.
Maybe @t_h_wyman Travis can provide some educated insight regarding these snakes……

I have never kept them so I cannot help much in that regard. There is a fairly lengthy post here on the boards from six years ago…
The most important thing, at least for me, is that they are opisthoglyphous so you should exercise care with them. Not entirely sure how “hot” they are though, I can check VBfNVS later
They are more geared toward eating non-mammalian prey but all reports I have heard are that they can convert fairly easily. Honestly, I would be inclined to feed a diet higher in chicks/quail if I had them. Babies might be difficult to start as I suspect they are obligate lizard feeders. They are also reported to be escape artists because they can squish a lot flatter than you might assume and so can squeeze out through places you might not expect. I had a friend that caught his escaping through the gap between the overlapping glass doors on his cage

Ive raised some of these years back for resale. There was nothing difficult about the ones I received. I had the silver and the golden and both were ideal snakes. I fed them on pink mice without issue and basically kept them in a rack the same way you could any other standard colubrid. The only time I got bitten if when they mistook my hand for food. There was no kind of reaction at all although if you let them know chew it’s possible you could get necrotic tissue from documentation I saw in a book. I wouldn’t really worry about it, feed them off tongs and if you’re really worried wear gardening gloves.
