Cool update over here!

So guess what I found in my yard today?

I was actually outside walking on my yard and I saw a female rainbow agama sitting on the grass. Of course you know I’m gonna try to catch it lol :joy:. Well, when I actually approached her, she didn’t move. So I sat there and about 20 minutes later, she moved and ran away really fast. I walked over to where she was sitting, and there was a cluster of eggs inside a hole.

So guess who’s gonna try to hatch some rainbow agama babies :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:? This guy!

Upon some quick research, I found out that you incubate them at 85° for three months. So we will see if we get some babies!

@ballornothing any suggestions?

Oh, I should add. I am not releasing any of these. They’re invasive in my home state so it’s completely fine for you to remove them from the outside. Most people actually kill these lizards on site. But I know two or three people that would actually like to own one of them

That’s a pretty cool discovery and a great way to make lemonade out of invasive lemons!

Ooooh that’s so neat! Good luck with them!

You’re going for all male hatchlings?

I am trying to. There is not a lot of info on how hot to go for males. So I am going to incubate at 86* and hope that makes better odds. If anyone knows or has an opinion on how hot, I would take it.

Why does this sound like something I’d do lol.
Good luck!

Cant wait to see theses guys hatch out

Don’t hold your breath…further research shows that they are hard to hatch. I have never done anything like this, so I hope they hatch.

I hope so! I am aiming for all males but I don’t know how hot is the range for that. Just hoping some hatch in 3 months :crossed_fingers:.

From what I read, 85 is all males but shrugs could be wrong still! Not a very common species kept and mostly wild caught from what I understand.

I haven’t looked into them in a while, but keeping fingers crossed for you! Heck I’d be tempted if they do hatch!

Well, I am sure that if I do get some hatchers that they will all be going to people on here, so I will definitely post updates if they do.

What is the reason for that?

Probably because males sport all the great colors.

that is a good point. I was kind of just thinking about how having both captive born males and females would help make captive breeding projects easier.

I dont think this is a breeding project but more of an amazing find. Males have all the colors so males are on the want list👍
