Crested Gecko not Eating

Hello - its been a long time since i posted to here. I upgraded my male crested gecko, pumpkin’s enclosure in late November. I’ve fed him a lot since then (obviously), but he’s never eaten out of his dish like he always does. I thought at first that it could be because of the adjustment into a new area, but its been almost a month now. I’ve recently started to feed him crickets more often, afraid that he’d starve to death. He’s always in a hiding spot, and always leaves his food untouched. I even changed the location of his food dish into a more obvious spot, but there is still no change. Please help with this - any advice is good advice.

How much CG diet are you offering per feeding? Have you changed the diet at all?

Sometimes they can just eat so little that its hard to tell if they’ve eaten any at all.

No diet change other than the crickets - i give him a few tbsp of pangea

A few tbs is a lot in one feeding. It may just be springing back to shape before you get to see it.

Have you tried just putting a thin layer in just to more easily find slurp marks?

Is it possible to get a photo of his body condition?

I’ll definitely try. I’ll add that i was under the impression that bugs were treats and not food needed for them to grow larger. This is what he looks like - hes 2 years old - as well as his enclosure and where hes been hiding + sleeping for the past day or two.

No clue why the other pics didnt load, but here they are

Maybe the spot where you feed is too out in the open for his liking? Also, i generally recommend to treat moves into a bigger enclosure similar to when you get them home for the first time, so no handling etc until they’re eating their CGD.

Sounds like you might be feeding too much as well, most of my adults eat no more than a third of a tbsp at a time.

Condition-wise, he looks fine imo so I wouldn’t worry too much, try moving the feeding spot/offer multiple spots, feeding less at a time, and leaving him alone.

Insects are generally considered “treats” or supplements to help babies grow, so most recommend not to feed them exclusively.

Alright - thank you so much for the help!! I also noticed he pooped last night, but it looks… odd.

It’s been a while since I’ve cared for cresties so I could be wrong…please correct me if I am crestie friends!

It could just be a fluke, but I do tend to keep an eye on weird poops like this. Anything mucous like does make me worry about parasites or bacteria. Sometimes it is just a 1 time thing so keep an eye out. If this happens more often I would consider testing for parasites or bacterial infections.

It may not be the best sample since it will have dried out by now. Feeder crickets have been known to carry pinworms. If you wait for another ‘fresher’ sample I would put it in a ziplock bag and refrigerator until you can get it to the vet.

If this happens again, i will try to bag it up, however, there are no exotic vets near where i live.
Thank you for the help nonetheless
