I am worried about FedEx overnight shipping two Herman’s late.

Hi, I am new here, I bought two Herman’s tortoises and the seller send me them via overnight on Monday (yesterday) was supposed to be received them today before 1:30 pm, now FedEx updated the tracking and the delivery will be tomorrow before 1:30 pm, the tortoises coming from NJ to Miami, they will survive? I am so worried about this, please help. Thanks

Have you contacted the seller? If not you need to.

A day’s delay should not be an issue, I’d ask the seller how they packed the tortoises to confirm that they will be safe. They most likely arrived at a FedEx hub (Indianapolis or Memphis) and missed their flight, its a common cause of delay.

Idk about the temps of the locations your tortoises are going through but shipping boxes specifically made to ship reptiles are designed to keep them insulated and safe if the seller has packaged them properly.

Make sure when you get them to gradually warm them up if they are cold and rehydrate them.

Yes, I contact him, not response yet, he looks like a responsible seller here, with 5 star rating reviews.
I am waiting for his response.
Yes, they are flying from Minneapolis from 9:00 am, but don’t understand why FedEx can’t deliver them today.

You do not want to call FedEx. You want to get in contact with the seller or with the company they purchased their label through (MorphMarket shipping, Redline, reptiles2U ect…)
FedEx generally has no clue about the reptile shipping process because it’s a smaller and specialized program that only a few are actually trained to respond properly.

I’ve had 3 shipments delayed over the years. The one I had an issue with was a summer delivery. Overheating is much worse than Chilling. As long as they are packed with a 40hr heat pack they most likely will be okay

Unfortunately, shipping overnight can still be delayed at the larger hubs. And this is ESPECIALLY true during this time of year with black Friday, cyber Monday and the Christmas build up.

Most definitely contact the seller for your own peace of mind. The seller is well aware of the situation hopefully. As @cmsreptiles Christina said, if the box was packed correctly everything should be fine. Normally in this type of delay situation the boxes are kept in a temperature controlled area of the hub until it’s reloaded onto the next plane.

Are you picking up at your hub?

Christina is soooo right because it’s an effort in futility. My shipping liaison was no help either. I won’t elaborate any further because I don’t want you to worry @yimar. But the 72 hour eat pack I put in the box saved my animals……

Like I said the package most likely just missed its flight from Indianapolis and is staying at that hub until it can catch another flight. Your package is in a temperature controlled warehouse and it should be safe until departure.

I’ve had 2 incoming reptile shipments and 1 outgoing reptile shipment delayed for that exact reason, but they were always fine.

Don’t contact FedEx, they can’t and won’t help you. Stay in contact with the seller and keep watching the tracking info.

If you are picking up at a hub, call the location and check to be sure the tracking isn’t wrong. If they are being delivered to a home address, they will likely be delayed. There is only one flight from KIND to KMIA per day and it’s possible the tracking did not update properly, as there is no possible FedEx flight out of KIND at 9am.

I have a FedEx priority overnight package (corn snakes) that should have been in Miami this morning, and it left Indy at the exact same time your package did. I get sick of paying for overnight delivery and getting “thanks for being patient while we try to deliver your package asap” delivery.

And yeah, their automated phone system itself is aggravating and usually just kicks you out. But sometimes that’s better since it’s obvious that their call center staff is paid to lie and get rid of you.

FX1707 is the flight from Indianapolis to Miami. Today it was delayed an hour and five minutes, though it did take off. This meant it landed in Miami at 7:21am. After that packages need to be unloaded, sorted, and then loaded onto trucks to go to other hubs or for residential delivery. There is usually a hard cutoff, between 7:30-10am, where the trucks must leave, regardless of if the packages are on it or not. This means the animals likely made it to the destination airport, but if they had to travel further than the airport hub, did not make it out.

Miami is a disaster with shipping issues, nothing comes as should or in time.
The seller told me he send them with a hot pack that last for 72 hours. They will be fine I hope.

I don’t know what they’re playing at here. I’d give them the benefit of the doubt if they hadn’t lied to me in every phone exchange for 3 years.

When did it leave Indy—yesterday or today?

Hope OP’s package is where it needs to be too.
