Snake shed in stained glass sounds so awesome, I’d love to see that!
And Merkimer is stunning (and has a great name), he’s definitely one of my favorites of your boas I’ve seen.

Aaaaaahhhhh! I have never heard of saving snake sheds or making jewelry out of them but hey, why not? I have the dna of 3 of my beloved Yorkies set in pendants after they passed away so why not snake sheds?
That being said, my beautiful Rainbow boa, Nod, is soaking in his bathtub right now so. Usually his sheds are nice and moist and pristine and all in 1 piece so maybe I can present it in a few days!
I don’t save sheds any more. I use to give them away at the educational shows I use to do. I even sold one for a joke on ebay years ago. My wife put it up for sale to see if someone would buy it. Two people bid against each other. We put it up for .99 cents and it sold for $12.00 plus shipping.
The only thing I have now is the tanned hide from my very fist boa i got when i was 11 years old. I named her Bo she was over 9 feet long and lived for 18 years. I told my family to put her in my casket with me when I die.
Oh wowwww!!! This is amazing, @tommccarthy!
Thank you @jawramik! I have sent three sheds over to her my stained glass artist already and will be sure to post her first creation as soon as she is done. And @auriea He is pretty full-grown so we think he is going to stay that light! I’ll keep you updated if he changes color. He is pretty amazing!
Tom that’s an awesome story/idea! And what a wonderful tribute to Bo! I TOTALLY GET IT TOO! I have the ashes from all 6 of my sweet little fur babies (dogs) who have passed on to the rainbow bridge. I am going to be cremated when I die and I have requested from my family that my ashes and my dogs ashes be mixed in 1 urn.
You know, just because reptiles don’t have 4 paws and fur, imo it doesn’t mean they don’t love us in their own scaly way as our pets. And I know it’s possible for us to love them.
You have warmed my heart with your post and your plans for Miss Bo. God Bless you for that dear man!
Def can’t wait to see that rainbow boa shed! He looks so happy and big and healthy! I wonder, is their shed any bit iridescent too?
@auriea His sheds are not iridescent but his last shed was white and clean compared to my CA boa sheds which I usually find rolled up in a ball within the hides. I don’t know how they manage that! Lol!
Nod has come out of his bathtub so it’s any day now. He’s the cutest thing when he’s in his tub with only his little BRB nose sticking out!
Brazilian RBs need a lot more humidity than other boas, or at least Nod does! Thanks for the compliment on him!
@auriea and yes he is quite large, strong and healthy! He’s my fat little Nod!
Haha my boas usually shed all rolled up like a prophylactic The babies less so and the BPs are all over the place (one currently has stuck shed but not on her eyes so I think she just… Doesn’t care to get the last bits off. Her humidity is like 75% or higher too lol… may be time for a soak.)
Yup! Drag out the bathtub! Lol! Ditto on the balled up boa shed with just a “hint “ of poop!
My og ball python José is a monster in the shed department. Not once in his whole little life has he given me one clean full shed except for once when he was a sub adult. It’s not that his humidity is off, he has the exact same temps and humidity range as my baby bel bp who sheds fine. But I’ve seen him do it, when he sheds (because he’s spider) he flips his head almost full upside-down, only rubs off one side, and pulls/rips the other. Then he likes to slither over it to keep the process going which rips it more. I don’t think he knows how to roll his shed tbh. Maybe that’s just one of those things that come in the neuro-retard package. But just for good measure, he’ll always be sure to leave a fat steamer in any shed he thinks he hasn’t adequately destroyed just for me. Just to make my day. One day, one fateful day. I will have a shed of his good enough to display on my wall.
Thats exactly how my adult banana ball python Funion is. One time did he have a complete shed. The albino pied and boas, never an issue.
The hots room at Zoo Creatures had a couple piles of sheds from all the rattlesnakes and cobras. I meant to ask if they were for sale, but got sidetracked, and forgot.
Well, Nod just had the worst shed that I can remember! Everything came off but it came off in a million pieces! However my house snake obliged and presented me with this yesterday so at least I have one to post! Lol!
Did you guys make your own pendants or have them made by sending the skins to an artist? If you made them yourselves, can you explain how, or if the latter, can you recommend any good artists to comission? With Gak’s recent health scare I’m hoping for many more sheds from him, but I want to make sure some part of him is preserved.
That’s hilarious! Lol!
I cheated, I am an artist! hehehe. I’d never done this, but I used this tutorial by Emily at Snake Discovery My only diversion was to use some very iridescent paper instead of just a color. You can buy the kits she mentions and the Diamond Glaze she uses both on Etsy.
Oh perfect! I love Snake Discovery, I’m surprised I didn’t stumble upon that by accident!
Ya that’s how i did it too.
