Leopard motleys and Dappled stripes

Yes! I got them from Chris. Such cuties!

Just realized I misspelled Sheherezade. Love that old story. She was a smart woman! How did you come by her story to name your snake after her?

Finally got a couple pics of Scherezade 's sisters. Here’s Solana, who is also a Xanthic Halo Snow Stripe het Hypo or else a Citrine Halo Stripe.

Rabia is the other girl I kept from that clutch. She’s het Stripe rather than visual, same genetics otherwise.

My guy Severus is supposed to have a date with one or both of these girls next year. He’s Xanthic Halo Snow Stripe het Diffused, 50% ph Hypo.

I’d love to throw my hat in the ring for one of the babies from that clutch, @caryl. Sheherezade and Solana are so beautiful! They fit so perfectly in all my favorite projects (minus sunkissed, but I’ll cross that in over a generation or two ), and would be a great pair for Mochi or Mango (I don’t like pairing siblings if I can help it). I hope I get lucky with the 50% het diffused from Severus!

And now back to leopard motleys and dappled stripes after this short commercial break

I’ll let you know if I get eggs from them in 2027. Nothing like planning ahead!
And yes, back to the lovely leopard motleys and dappled stripes!

Haha. I’m great at planning ahead for all my favorite snake projects, but terrible at planning ahead for next week’s meals! :joy:

All the babies from the other test clutch are out. They are ghosts and anery with some motley. No leopard patterns but also no sunkissed.

Curiouser and curiuser! The normal motley is overriding the leopard pattern in this test clutch and the majority of last year’s test clutch. The mate this time had no stripe (this is the pink and green snow) but het motley. I got some ghost motleys that look like they will be very pink.

IMO this is behaving like a variant of the stripe allele thats codominant to the regular stripe and also affects motley. I think I have eliminated sunkissed as the cause.

Regarding scheherezade I think the name is from the 1001 nights in Arabia story. I can’t remember what inspired that name lol. Her sisters look wonderful! Kind of nice to see the not-striped version.

Photo is of ghost motley from latest test clutch. I took better pictures of the other clutch will update soon.

Ok here’s some of the freshly shed babies from the striped clutch. 11 ghost and 3 hypos.

Please be honest in your answers, is this just a fancy stripe / weird cube or do you agree it’s a genetic thing? I just feel like the lack of interest is telling. Like, I have had people message me about it asking then leave it on read.

I got quite a few this year and I think between this year and last year I have proved the spots are reproducible when you breed a dappled stripe to an unrelated stripe. Given lots of stripe lines give cubed and vanishing patterns, but not this consistent dorsal markings

So anyway here’s some of the babies. They all (14) took the first meal like a champ.

Pretty babies! The “Clean Plate Club” is growing! Congratulations!:+1::snake::blush::ok_hand:

They are lovely, Jen.

To me, the ones pictured here at least do look like a quirky Stripe. Not a classic Cube, nor a usual Sunspot, but some variant of Stripe. I’ve had a couple from time to time with a similar look. Not that a similar look means it’s exactly the same thing genetically, of course. Here are a couple who came to mind when I first saw yours. I’ve still got the Butter Stripe. The other was sold as a baby.

I would have kept that too! I had to do a double take at the one that said “BaxTu” because I think I had her sister, Desdenova - a cubed stripe. (the snake I used last year for my other test outcross). I have since sold her mainly because they both carry similar genes and I can’t afford a warehouse for every project… I appreciate your input. I vacillate between it being a sunspot too. They used to be around more. By next year Desdenova son should be big enough to see how the outcross ones pass it down.

Not every snake had the row of spots but a majority did. Others had cubed or just vanishing stuff going on.

These are the 2 I have left, from last years outcross by Desdenova. The anery is female, I am for sure keeping the ghost boy.

How pretty! You know I’ve always been a fan of interestingly marked stuff. Yes, I believe you had the sister of that Balder x Tulip baby (BaxTu). I kept a female from that clutch who had her first clutch last season. She produced some Cubes and some clean stripes. None of her babies looked like the Dappled snakes.

I’m guessing that any lack of interest may be due to the open questions about heredity, because they are amazing looking. I’ll bet if you got pics of fully developed adults out there, interest would spike. If I wasn’t already deep into the SK Stripes and out of space, I’d get some.

Honestly, they seem to be another flavor of Stripe in addition to Standard and Cube. And a pattern modifier like SK isn’t responsible for the look. I’d love for it to be proven as something allelic to Motley and Stripe because I don’t think that locus is as simple as our current model describes it.

The adults are all faded though! As all stripes fade… they are amazing looking ghosts but you wouln’t notice the pattern that much… Even the juvies, though they do turn a nice color, are getting the pattern fade. I think those hypos will be lookers. But again they might turn orange all over like mom.

Anyway I have a glut of them now lol. The female also layed a good sized second clutch! This is the dappled I have from last year and the last one I will produce by the original pair…

I think you went to the same Business & Marketing school I did. :joy:

I’d call them Dappled Stripes. Like Cubed Stripes.

Maybe once the outcross are big enough to breed to an unrelated stripe next year, if the look holds true?
If it acts like tessera… Once they have it you’re going to get half the clutch like that. But stripes are already rather varied.

If anyone is on iherp? I have pictures of all of them up now. I still use it for tracking.

Maybe. Or maybe it’s like how Mot is dominant to Stripe at their locus. Maybe Dappled is dominant to both there.
