I’ve uncovered several spiderlings only to have them look at me like “I’m fine and you are not.”

So far I’ve managed to resist the urge to dig up or uncover a spider I’m worried about…but that’s mainly because they’ve popped back up before my worry actually drove me to action. :joy:

Had a couple of re-housings today! These two molted last week and got considerably larger so I moved them up a size. My D. diamentinensis got a nice cube full of stuff to web up, and my A. braunshauseni got to go into the cool iridescent coffin.

So…less than 24 hours after I typed these words, I almost dug up my lava spider. :joy: I couldn’t see her in her burrow. I could only see what I was pretty sure was her molt…but I was starting to freak out that she’d died and that’s what I was seeing. I made the decision to dig her up and take a look, pulled out my tongs, opened up the enclosure…and finally saw her sitting out on top of the substrate in plain sight. I couldn’t see her in the burrow because she wasn’t in the flipping burrow!

Those enclosures look awesome, nice work!

Yeah she was probably sitting there thinking “ what a dufus”! :joy:

Aside from almost giving me a heart attack, it’s actually pretty cool to see her out and about. Especially because I was finally able to take a picture where you can actually see her!

She is really cute Jennifer! Such a tiny little thing! I put another cricket in with the P R. today so when it disappears I will know all is well. I can’t wait for it to grow too large for its crevice. Maybe I will see it soon……??? :crossed_fingers:

I’m hoping that now that she’s out and about, perhaps I won’t have to kill her cricket for her anymore. :joy: Also love how these guys have more or less their adult colours so early. They’ll get sharper and more intense as she matures, but she’s already got the basic idea. (Unlike my purple pink toe, which is currently… checks notes… turquoise?:joy:)

Hopefully your little pokie will get less shy and be out and about more soon!

Pixie the curly hair and the lava sling are out and about this morning, so I got a couple pictures.

I haven’t seen my P. reduncus out much over the last week or so. Given the size of her booty the last time I saw her, I suspect she’s in premolt.

Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving!

So…none of my new Ts have names yet. As usual, it’s taking me forever to decide on the “perfect” names.

However, I think I finally decided on a name for the lava spider: Pompeii. Get it? I’m so clever.:rofl::person_facepalming:

Mathilde came out for a stroll, so I got some pictures of her too.

Love the name!

More pictures of Pompeii, because I just can’t get over how cute this little one is. You can kinda see the little tiger stripes on her bum in the first one. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

And this picture of Mathilde came out weirdly blue- tinted for some reason, but I actually kinda like it.

Cyriocosmos Elegans - Hati Hati

It’s difficult to make him out. He is at the bottom of the cork bark. He is very dark in color……

Very cool! Though did you mean it’s Cyriopagopus sp. hati hati? Because Cyriocosmus elegans is a totally different species. But I understand your confusion, the genus names are super similar!

If it will be purple as an adult, it’s Cyriopagopus sp. hati hati. If it will be a black and orange dwarf with a heart on its bum, it’s Cyriocosmus elegans. It looks like the former to me, since C. elegans gets its adult colours quite young as I recall, and it doesn’t look black and orange in the picture.

This is the label but I am going to check to see what the description is on the website…… I didn’t know there was another one……

Looks like either the seller got mixed up, or maybe that container used to contain a C. elegans and they just forgot to remove the label? :person_shrugging:

But I’m fairly confident that what you have is Cyriopagopus sp. hati hati. C. elegans is a true dwarf that is small as an adult, and it looks like the one you have is already too big to be a C. elegans. Pretty sure you have Cyriopagopus sp. hati hati, which is a gorgeous purple (arboreal?) spider.
