Had another Pompeii sighting! This time I managed to get a picture.
Ooh! Pretty pretty!
Feeding day is always fun. Got a couple pictures of my GBB, Oolong, and one of my jumping spider, Kiko.
Mathilde the G. pulchripes just molted! She’s still in her molting hole and still looks all soft and damp, but dang, she looks huge. Can’t wait to see her all stretched out.
Very cool, that looks great! Just hope that lid is secure. Those suckers can climb glass and will absolutely find any hole they can squeeze through. Ask me how I know. ![]()
Don’t worry i put about a three inch barricade of olive oil on the top of the walls and put a gallon water jug on one side of the lid and a big mister full of water on the other side ![]()
My Grammostola pulchra just molted and i’m very excited to see how big she got when she decides to come out and stretch out!
I also put some buffalo beetles in with them because i have a TON in with my dubia colony so thought might as well put some with these guys
Also, very glad i decided not to drill large air holes in this isopod container. Here are some wild type Armadillidium vulgare from outside where i live. I didn’t even know isopod mancae could climb like this
They have definitely been escaping, just saw some mancae outside of the bin. I have absolutely no clue how i can keep them in so i might just have to accept that they will escape
She is really pretty!
Get some window screen and hot glue to the inside of the holes.
That’s good advice except that there’s no air holes
. They are just getting out through the lid because it’s not super tight fitting. I put stuff on top of it to try to weigh it down but i’m sure they can find a way to escape still lol.
I find zebra isopods around every few days because their lid warped a little and the buggers figured out it was a perfect fit for them - I’ve stuffed a napkin into the gap but my goodness I went crazy plugging their airholes before I figured out it was the lid being the issue ![]()
She’s looking gorgeous!
Double whammy today!
I have a BROWN zebra isopod! Potential recessive like leucism?
I know they get pale after a molt, but that usually looks like a pale, desaturated, and soft zebra, not changing brown to black. Either way, I would not mind more like this popping up - it looks the way baby zebras (the actual equines) do, a soft brown
My phone camera isn’t very good, but you can see there is a difference
Back when we had big colonies of isopods, we had a few different colors of zebras. It’s always interesting to see what morphs comes out as they breed.
It’s weirdly exciting! Like a slightly different colored pillbug just made my whole night better
