Love My Research

Hello!

When I started getting into reptiles researching them became a hobby of mine to which I noticed that a lot of places where one can get information was people selling things.

That being said I started putting forth what I learned in school about getting multiple sources and began condensing the information I was finding across websites into my own personal documents.

With that I know that a lot of places people get information from I most likely haven’t found. Which is the reason I made this post.

If anyone would be willing to drop the sites / creators / books that they have used for any and all information it would be amazing!

So far I’ve worked through Corn snakes, Crested Geckos, and California Kingsnakes and am starting on plants that are safe for reptiles (though it’s more the care of said plants than the plants themselves now). There are going to be more to come so any animal information places I’ll take!

Thanks for your time!

I’m mostly a corn snake guy. Michael McEachern’s old Care Guide and Color Guide were great resources back in the day. Somewhat later, Kathy Love and Don Soderberg, both pioneers in the hobby, each wrote great general guides to the species. Chuck Pritzel’s later morph guides weren’t just morph guides, but genetics primers and resources for understanding pattern formation itself.

I’m not a fan of modern, sponsored Care Sheet sites.

Thanks! I’m not a fan of them either as they all are trying to pedal something. It’s part of the reason why I started this little project of mine

I’ll add these to my list!

My all time favorite place to find info about reptiles is reptifiles.com and for plants thebiodude.com is my favorite. As for the care of the plants, I just use google

If you want get beyond basic husbandry and care you’re going to want to dive into sites like scholar.google.com, morphosource.org, pubmed, ncbi, etc.

I also highly suggest becoming a podcast consumer and checking out the podcast thread I made on the forum here.

Sweet thanks! Yeah for plants I’m lucky enough to have a grandmother thats obsessed with them to pick the brain of as well, tho finding decent info on them anywhere isn’t nearly as touch-and-go as for reptiles
