Read through this entire journey to catch up and man was it worth it! Such an adorable first baby with hopefully more to come! And man is that a small baby! I’m used to pythons (even though I haven’t had eggs, yet) but even for a corn that even sounds and looks small! Although I’m no expert. I bet the thrill is immeasurable!
It sure is! And from the look of the baby they also seem reverse okeetee but cant confirm yet until they shed out. The second egg has pipped so we are just waiting on the third egg which is the smallest one in the cultch too. Hopefully they manage to hatch well and if they do ill name them gumball lol
Very cute! 3 grams is extremely tiny though. Are you sure your scale was correct? Average baby weight is 6 to 8 grams at hatching, with runts being in the 4-5 gram range.
I reset the scale before I weighed it so it should be correct? Ill probably try and weigh it again later
Sounds good! Just visually, it doesn’t look that small.
Yea definitely 3g? I also just looked at the last 2 eggs and the last one is starting to pip! I see a cut but no bubbles or head yet so it probably started very recently
Oh, the scale won’t work properly on a soft surface. Try again on like a counter or something.
Second this, my scale is so finicky personally I can get a 200g difference even on hard surfaces, so top of my racks is a no go and often times I find myself belly against the floor taking weights, I guess it gives me a workout every week at least surface makes all the difference with scales
Since the scale seems to be located in a bathroom or kitchen placing the scale on any counter or table would definitely help with a better reading!
Oh ok then thanks! Ill try again later i dont want to disturb the little baby too much
Okay, well just a small baby I guess! You might want to do a pinkie head for the first couple meals for this one. Or half a pinkie.
Ok ill make sure to do that. Also the last egg has pipped or atleast made a cut in the egg and ive seen yolk oozing out and movement but ive not seen any bubbles or seen its nose or head poking out? It only cut the egg about 2 hours ago
It’s been a few since I hatched out corns! How tiny and cute! Glad they seem to be hatching for you good! I do love how corns color up so good when the shed, already looks so pretty! Congrats again!
Thanks! I also cant wait to see the colours when they shed out!
This egg cut earlier but its not poked its head out yet or blown any bubbles its been around 3 or 4 hours since they cut the egg and im starting to get a bit worried. Is there anything I should do or should I just wait?
You can widen the slit carefully with an x-acto knife, but other than that, there’s nothing you can really do but wait and see. The lack of nose and bubbles is a bit concerning. I had a dead in egg baby this season do exactly that - pip, but never got the nose out or took any breaths.
It looks like it has been absorbing yolk is this a good sign it could still be alive? I shone a light through the egg and it looks like the shadow in the egg has moved from the bottom to the side of the egg too? This egg is also the smallest one in the clutch so could that be a reason for this issue?
Absorbing yolk and moving are good signs, I would think. I don’t know if the small size of the egg would affect things.
Just got a slight peak in the egg and there is a developed baby with colour in there
Any movement?
