Should i leave the smaller tub open in the enclosure or close it with bambam inside? Also when scenting the pinky should it still be boiled? And considering the 48hrs between feedings tomorrow would be good to try again.
I would put the smaller tub in his enclosure right away. Leave it open. He may decide it’s a good place to just hang out. In any case, he’ll be more comfortable with it. When it’s time to feed him, close the smaller tub with Bambam and his food inside, leaving/returning it to the same place it was within the larger enclosure.
Up to you. I usually make only one change at a time, so I know what worked. There’s nothing objectively wrong with scenting after boiling if you’d rather do that.
Best of luck!!!
Ok thanks! Ive just added the smaller tub to the enclosure so they have time to get used to it. Hopefully I can get some lizard shed and that thats the trick that gets bambam eating.
Sounds good. I’ll think encouraging thoughts and say some prayers.
Here’s to hoping that little stinker eats soon!!!
Not sure if i asked but when scenting do you still use the dish soap then the scenting item?
Again, up to you. I would lean towards doing whatever has drawn the snake’s attention more, if you’ve noticed anything when you’d offered before.
Im starting to see that alot of things are personal choice lol. Honestly im not sure what eat has attracted bambam more they seem to just always ignore it.
It’s true. There are many ways to successfully care for these creatures. When it comes to getting stubborn babies going, there is no one correct way. They are individuals and their own preferences dictate a lot of it.
I was thinking about Bambam’s 2g size. If you do end up going with a bit of mouse tail for assist feeding, I would go with about a 1/2"-long piece the first time rather than 1"-long. Getting something into the snake’s belly is important. Getting too long a piece might potentially be problematic.
Yeah ill probably try offering both. Ill start the pinky and then if they refuse ill try a tail. Unfortunately I wasnt able to get any lizard shed today so ill try another pet shop tomorrow if they also aren’t able to I have some bacon grease ready. Also would it be better to try assist feed the pinky head first or just go ans try assist feed the tail if they dont chose to eat the pinky head?
The tail would be easier and probably less stressful for the e snake. Negative side is not as much nutritional value as parts of a pinky, but I think you need to get some calories in bam quickly so I would do the tail.
Agreed. A piece of tail is much, much easier get down.
Yeah thats what I was thinking too. Getting anything into bambam would be great.
Agreed again. It’s pretty easy to get a bit of tail into them. It’s easiest if you begin with the actual end of the tail. It’s naturally tapered, too. The only thing is that, going that direction, the fine hairs on the tail point the other way but it’s not normally a real problem. It’s okay to put a teeny bit of water or egg (or even that bacon grease you mentioned) into the tail to help ease its passage.
Just tried another pet shop to see if they had any lizard shed and they didnt unfortunately. Ill just try using some bacon grease and place them in the smaller tub inside their main tub. Hopefully doing this makes them eat naturally but if not ill assist feed a tail.
Fingers and toes and eyeballs crossed
that the little Bam noodle eats!
Finally managed to get bambam into the tub and they weren’t very happy about it.
In the end I decided to use egg yolk for scenting so hopefully this works. Ill check back on them in an hour. If they dont eat by then should I assist feed a tail or leave the pinky head in there overnight and see if they eat it then?
Well that would be up to you but if it were me I’d leave bam alone with the pink head for the night with no peeking at all in an hour. If he doesn’t eat the head over night then assist feed a tail tomorrow.
Unless @caryl thinks differently…….
I managed to assist feed a mouse tail! They have now at least eaten something. Took a while to get them to open their mouth but when they did they did the rest themselves! Hopefully this will start to get them eating by themselves.
And in my hands too me happy x
