The fact that BamBam finished by themself is very encouraging!
It sure is! Also would it be a good idea to attempt more frequent feedings every 2-3 days rather than every 4 days like pebbles? And if they dont eat a pinky head again next feed should I assist feed the head or a tail again? Also just a thought but since they are very active could that be hunting activity and that they just aren’t seeing the pinky as food?
Sometimes babies don’t recognize food as food so this might be the case with Bams. But the fact that he ate the tail with no problem is a fantastic sign! Maybe a few more tails every 2 or 3 days and then a head would be in order. He may have just needed a boost to recognize his food! This is very encouraging! Congratulations @shadowspiderjack!
Awesome news! I’m so glad that little Bambam got something into its tiny tummy! Good job! The fact that the baby ate once you got the food into its mouth is an excellent thing.
I would stick with the 4 day break between feedings at least this first time. The whole process of assist feeding is at least somewhat stressful for them. They don’t know what we’re up to, holding them snugly and making them take something into their mouth. Seems like this was not a super stressful session, but I’d wait 4 days this time for certain. That also ensure that the snake had time to process this meal. It’s the first one, after all. The digestive tract is getting utilized for the first time.
Hooray for Bambam, and for you @shadowspiderjack !
Ok thanks ill make sure to keep on a 4 day schedule then! Also i would normaly feed pebbles today but they are deep into blue so im not sure if they would even eat the food? Would it still be worth a try? They have had 3 boiled pinkies all in a row now so ill probably start trying to get them onto just warmed pinkies.
I would skip feeding while they’re in blue. But otherwise, yeah, you could try a regular hot, thawed pinkie, not boiled, after they shed.
While watching bambam stroll around their tub i managed to see them pass a large amount of waste considering their size! Shows that they digested that tail nicely with no issues!
Woo hoo! We do love poop! Me thinks Mr Bams will be just fine! A few more mouse tails and then the sky is the limit!!!
That would sound so weird and crazy to non reptile folk! But it’s so true!! Such a good sign!! Nice @caron
It sure is relieving to see bambam pass some waste after refusing so many meals!
Why thank you Nathan! I appreciate that! Lol!
Hooray for !! That’s a great sign. Parents, pet folks, animal people, we are happy to see good
.
Well im a bit worried now. Just woke up at 1am today and decided to check on my snakes and saw this in embers enclosure.
Looks like she had a very crusty poop and it left a little blood. I decided to give her a bath where she had 2 normal poops and no blood but they were both quite hard and it took her a bit of effort. I also checked over her body and noticed part of her vent looks slightly lifted and not flat like the other side. Ive put her on paper towels now and will probably get her checked over by a vet.
That’s a bit alarming.
Did you find the “crusty poop” in her enclosure? How large is the spot of blood? What do you mean when you say that “it took her a bit of effort” to pass waste in the bath?
Part of her vent not being flat combined with frank blood is worrisome. She may be trying to prolapse. Of course, it could be less serious and I hope it is. Putting her on paper towels is the right thing to do. You might also bump her warm side temps up a bit to 85-86°F. Did you happen to take any pictures of her vent area? Or the waste?
Yes I did.
It wasnt extremely large it was about 1cm.
She had to flex the muscles around her tail a couple times before she was able to pass the waste.
Shes currently at 28°C.
The waste is also in the picture with the blood. Its where the heat mat is. I wasnt able to get i picture of her waste in the bath since i didnt have my phone on me.
Ill make sure to get some pictures of that soon.
Would a vet visit be advised either way? Its not too far from where I live (within walking distance).
It almost looks like she’s got something under that anal plate in the second photo, I’d consider taking her in so the vet can have a closer look. You said she flexed the muscles near her tail, the positioning makes me wonder if perhaps she’s got an impacted scent gland or a piece of substrate stuck in the area that is causing the bleeding. I’d also worry if there’s a foreign body stuck that she might cause a prolapse in trying to dislodge it herself.
I do think that a vet visit is a good idea. There’s something not quite right with her, obviously. The vet can hopefully figure out what’s happening and keep her from making the situation worse. I would increase her warm side option to 30°C. From this point, just let her rest in her enclosure on paper towels until you can get her into the vet.
Ok thanks @caryl and @noodlehaus ill increase her temps and make sure she gets checked over.
Would you say its an emergency at all as he is very worried about her x
