Its my birthday today and i have told jack i am to have big hugs with all of the snakes lol x
Pebbles has eaten another pinky perfectly but bambam is still refusing to eat a pinky head. I assist fed another tail which took a bit longer than last time but when their mouth opened they did the rest with no issues. Ill leave the pinky head in the tub overnight too incase they decide to eat it.
Well Happy Birthday
@demma! And many happy more!
And @shadowspiderjack you give her some hugs with the snakes and we want pictures!!
Thank you xx
Happy birthday @demma !
Way to go Pebbles, and Bambam got some nutrition so that’s a positive thing.
Offered all of my snakes food today and so far 13/14 of them have eaten. Bambam still refuses food so ill leave it in there for an hour and check back up on them.
Edit: Bambam still hasnt eaten a pinky head so I got them to eat another tail. Are there any other methods worth trying to get bambam to eat?
Just keep doing what you’re doing. When I have one who requires assist feeding, I do just what you’re doing. Offer first and give them time to eat. If they don’t, move onto the assist potion of the program. Eventually, assuming all is well within his body which it probably is, your little one will decide that it’s actually hungry between meals and hey, it knows what to do about that! It will start eating on its own.
Ill offer again in another 4 days. If they staill dont eat (which im hoping they do finally start eating on their own) then would it be a good idea to start assist feeding a pinky head? Currently ive assist fed 3 mouse tails.
It’s all about size. Colubrids aren’t as “stretchy” as some species. Meals should not be more than 1.5x the width of the snakes body at its widest part. If your smallest pinky head is too big, you can try a haunch or shoulder or other part. It can be a messier process, but the more nutrition they get the faster they can grow into larger meals. Tails are good to get them started feeding - much much better than not feeding at all!- but they’re not the most nutritionally dense meal.
I apologize, I just realized that I hadn’t responded to your response about Ember’s feeding. You may want to consider placing her meals on something like newspaper if you feed in her bin. This can go a long way toward preventing ingestion of substrate. How is Ember doing?
Ember is doing great! Shes passed waste fine whike in the bath and i havent noticed any nore blood either. The vet told me to keep ger on paper towels until her next shed. Overall shes doing great and ate today too.
Sounds very good. Glad she’s recovering well and uneventfully.
I managed to find some lizard shed today! Ill use it to scent bambams next meal. My local pet shop is also selling a nice rack system including everything for £100 so ill probably get that!
A trick if you have to assist feed for a bit is: once bam starts swallowing the first thing(mouse tail, part, ect) you can have a second item ready and place it on the end of the first so he just keeps swallowing. This has helped me put on some size and is less stressful, because you only have to get them to that swallowing stage once. Helpful because it is easier to assist feed smaller things but harder to get nutrition in. Good luck with lizard scenting!
Thanks ill make sure to give that a try!
ill be feeding the babies again tomorrow hopefully using the lizard she is what will get bambam to start eating!
Fingers crossed!
Lol, yeah, Pebbles has that look of, “I’m a hungry hunter!”
Hopefully the lizard scent will get Bambam interested in feeding independently. You’re doing a good job, @shadowspiderjack . Bambam will get there and Pebbles IS there.
Thanks! I’m really hoping this is what will get bambam to eat. Also does the type of lizard matter? when I was in another pet shop the had bearded dragons but they said their shed wouldn’t work since they aren’t form the same area as corn snakes.
