My first ever clutch

I would think that might be true….:

Personally I think any lizard is better than no lizard. I don’t think it’s been documented either way, so I would try it anyways.

Yes that is absolutely very true! It’s definitely worth a try! :+1:

Tbh im not sure what type of lizard shed I have im just hopojg that it will get bambam to eat. If not i might try to assist feed a pinky head this time

Just offered both the babies food. Pebbles took immediately as always but this time bambam seemed to show some interest. Ill check back in an hour and hopefully they eat the food!

Edit: Bambam still wont eat unfortunately. We managed to get the end of a pinky into their mouth but they kept spitting it out. So i had to feed another tail again which they ate themselves when it was in their mouth. It seems bambam wants to live off a tail only diet.

Bambam is hard work i just hope she will eat properly for us soon x

Next feeding you might want to try a fuzzy leg, something that can be similar in size but has more nutrients in it. Or perhaps 2 tails, if not a leg for more nutrients/calories.

Yeah ill probably try a leg next feeding then. The most difficult part seems to be getting bambams mouth open to actually get the food in there and the small food and bambam bekng very small too isnt helping.

To answer a question belatedly, it doesn’t matter where the lizard is from. Stubborn corns are also known to be triggered to eat by tuna, salmon, and bacon, none of which they’d be eating in the wild. Lol

I second this.

I guess ill just have to keep trying more methods then until I find the right one.

Just weighed bambam again. They seem to be at a stable 3g but not gaining anything.

Yeah it is hard to get calories in with assist or even force feeding. You have to use smaller prey items then usual and he is so small you can’t even use whole prey items which are the perfect nutrients for these corns! I really would suggest next time you have to assist feed start with a tail till he starts swallowing himself then put a leg right up to the tail so he just keeps continuing to swallow. Of course after seeing if he eats on his own still. I know retic and other python breeders that actually do 2 to 3 smaller whole prey items in a row each feeding! The thinking is getting them a little size as to hopefully make them stronger and more confident to try themselves. I don’t want you to stuff your snake, or put added stress on him, but he definitely needs some calories and nutrients! He was tiny, but seems to be digesting and functioning just fine, so I am not positive that he will thrive, but I think there is a very good chance!

Ill probably still start with offering a pinky head but if bambam refuses ill then do the trick you mentioned with a fuzzy leg.

So I have to agree with @banereptiles, Nathan. Little Bams definitely needs the calories sooner than later. He also needs calcium from the bones of a whole rodent. If you can follow the tail with a leg (sounds gross! Lol). at least he will be getting way more nutrients than from just a tail. He ideally, really should be eating on his own by now. After he eats a tail and a leg a few times then try a leg and a leg for a while and then work up to head and a leg until finally he can/will accept or eat on his own a whole pink.
He may even get a taste for a pink by then. I would not waste too much more time…….

Fingers crossed :crossed_fingers: for him!

Im hopijg that the tails bambam has been fed will eventually trigger a hunger response and get them to eat. Until then ill probably have to keep assist feeding unfortunately.

Sorry, I don’t remember every trick you’ve tried - have you tried a fully boiled pinkie head? As in, dropping a frozen pinkie head directly into boiling water for a minute until it’s gray and rubbery? Sometimes that can be even more enticing than a lightly boiled pinkie.

The way ive been doing it is thawing it from frozrn using warm water from a tap then either using the scenting item and offering or boiling it after thawing in warm water from a tap. Id usually cut the head off after i boil the pinky.

At 3 g, Bambam is big enough to take a “drumstick” or a very small pinky head. Not losing weight is good. Gaining weight is possible and he does need to get more substance into him. Starting with a bit of tail and following with something bigger will be beneficial.

Chances are great that this is just what will happen; meals in result in energy, strength, and eventually appetite. It can take time. Don’t give up. You’re doing great!

Im about to attempt another feeding. Ill try boilkng the pinky from frozen this time rather than thawing it from a tap. Hopefully doing this will work.

Edit: bambam still absolutely refuses to eat a pinky head. We tried to follow a tail with a head but bambam just spat it out. We then got the gead back into their mouth and gently pushed it down until it was almost in the neck but bambam still spat it out.

In the end we managed to get in a tail and the bottom end of a pinky.
