Looks good! I don’t handle mine after their set up. Not sure what you mean by twisting, but do be careful about handling them. Their shells are flexible and it’s theoretically possible to disturb/damage the delicate veins inside. It’s also possible to disrupt the tiny bubble which forms inside the egg and is important for gas exchange for the embryo.
I’m like @solarserpents, I do separate my babies shortly after hatching. I weigh them at that point but I don’t attempt to sex them or otherwise handle them until after they’ve shed. I generally try sexing them the first time after they’ve shed if they’re calm. Some folks prefer to leave the babies together until they shed . Either way works.
Ok then thanks for the help! Ill likely seperate them too since it will make it easier to monitor them separately. Hopefully the next update will be when they when they pip haha
The biggest challenge is making sure you can provide the right environment and to be completely escape proof. All snakes are escape artists, but baby corns are small, slender, strong and good climbers which makes them real good escape artists. The plastic bins are usually used in a rack system, shoebox sized for babies is what is commonly used, but as long as you have a proper temperature gradient and make these escape proof for them then they will work. You would want to add a hide or cover for the little one, and of course a shallow water dish. I like damp paper towels till they shed the first time, also with humidity in those bins you need to burn/drill air holes on at least 2 opposite sides to keep condensation down.
the handles keep the lid latched down on both sides so hopefully they wont be able to escape. ill drill holes through the sides for vents and for thermometers etc. Im planning on placing the 3 tubs along a piece of heat cable. hopefully all goes well and they hatch in a few days!
Sounds like a plan, if the long sides of the lid are easily bent up you can use file clips to hold them perfectly. Also it stinks but melting holes with a small pencil soldering iron makes completely smooth holes for vents, or drill from the inside out, or use fine sandpaper on the inside so you don’t leave any sharp plastic burs. The heat setup sounds great, basically what I do for quarantine! Of course make sure it’s on a thermostat. Good plan, hope to see them soon!
You can definitely just use one thermostat, but just take temps in all cages. I place the thermostat’s temperature probe on the heat tape near the back bottom of a container, then take temperatures in each container. You can use the same thermometer, or temp gun just take measurements in the hot spot side(over the heat tape) of each container and the cool side of each so you know where you are at temp wise. Once you have it dialed in it shouldn’t fluctuate too much unless the ambient temperature in the room you have them in changes a lot.
If you want to invest in a cheap soldering iron to make the ventilation holes, I bought mine at Lowe’s for about 20 bucks. Get the one that plugs in. I wasted money on a battery powered one and it was a piece of junk. Then I found the plug in one. I have definitely gotten my money’s worth out of it, as all my guys are in tubs……
Day 61 now. Eggs are all still showing strong veins. Besides this not much else to say. Ill just take a random guess here and say there will hatch either tuesday or Wednesday lol
