My *NEW* naturalistic bio active terrarium!

Here are some pictures…so sorry about the glass it is really bugging me it just won’t go away.
And the glare is so bad I may just take more pictures tonight after I clean it

I did just get a carpeting plant from Petco and I really don’t know the species…have any of you seen this type before?

Also is it safe to keep the gecko in the tank while I use white vinegar to clean the glass?? I don’t have a seater tank to put him in and I feel like that may be more stressful

Okay so I just googled the cm dimensions for a 20 gal and this is what I got… in cm 50.0 x 25.3 x 58.8

This is his food dish compared to my finger and yes that’s about how much he eats a night

These were all taken just now

So like I mentioned I was thinking of starting him on bugs…the only issue I had was the fact that cresties mostly will only eat crickets but crickets are known to carry pinworms and other parasites and I didn’t want to risk it so I went to dubia.com and I think instead I will try some dubia roches…in your experience do cresties readily eat and enjoy Dubia’s?

Thanks the enclosure has been bio-active for a few years now, I establish the plants prior to geckos arrival and I use fake plants if the plant itself hasn’t grown for sufficient coverage.

I’d suggest a lot more higher up, Cresties climb and prefer to be up high.

Very cute pics :relaxed:

Sorry I missed the part about insects!

I breed my own dubia roaches for my Cresties, it’s their main insect but I do have some fussy eaters that won’t eat them. I do buy locusts and occasionally Wax worms (treat only). I also buy crickets, but they freak me out (not sure why). Just know that dubia roaches can make you allergic to shellfish.

Main thing is that they need to be gut loaded, I keep mine for 4 days prior to feeding to Cresties.

So the amount his eating doesn’t appear that bad, what I’d suggest is a slightly thicker mixture. Your not doing it wrong, but think of it as his taking in more water ATM, where as thicker mixture means he will get more of the food side of it, even though the amount might be the same.

Also some plants are dangerous to geckos so if you don’t know what your it is, do not use it. I have researched each plant I wanted to add and I thoroughly clean them prior to use. I also keep them a while before adding to enclosure

Thankyou,
I I’ll definitely buy some branches to put higher up…just looking for the right ones.
Glad to hear cresties will actually eat dubia’s for some reason I heard they will not eat them…

I will not be breeding them as I do have a phobia for bugs I am absolutely terrified so I will be buying about 36 every month or so. Mango (the crestie I have been talking about) has never eaten bugs before so I was thinking of starting him off on a bug any reptile loves which are waxworks I of course will feed very sparingly.

Thankyou for the tip he doesn’t seem to like the thicker version which is why his is so watery I will try it though.
And about the plants I got them from a a huge chain pet store And these parts are labeled for terrarium use so I am not worried about it being toxic though I will look into it

I would definitely check. Pet stores are known to have bad reputation when it comes to care of reptiles.

With the bugs, just make sure they are small enough to fit in mouth or the Crestie will likely choke. Rule of thumb is the insects should be no bigger then the space between the eyes of your gecko.

With branches, I have collected mine from trees I’ve cut back (my own trees) and baked them in the oven

Yes I have heard…but I did find out that one of the plants o got was a lucky bamboo which is a very popular terrarium plant so perfectly safe and the other plant is by the name of neorgelia hybrid still looking into that one.

Definitely will be sure to order the small size of dubia’s when I get them.
