I’ve seen people try to ‘assist feed’ down the wrong tube. They didn’t realize that it was then considered force feeding… and was causing more stress by trying to push a food item in the glottis.
The last time I saw this happen was a pet shop manager was shown how to by a vet… And instead of doing it themselves, wrongly explained to the employee how to do it.

It’s honestly something I think should be shown to an owner by a knowledgeable keeper (if not veterinary staff) regardless. Not something that we simply send a video or two to someone online.

Many reptile keepers are too gung ho about doing it themselves and I hope that changes soon as more keepers go into veterinary fields

Agreed. I have force-fed on rare occasions. I’ve often assist-fed. There’s a definite difference. I have been shown how to tube feed when working for a vet but never done it on a wee snake nor do I wish to. (I’ve tubed meds into a horse many times, though. Very different.)
