New gene/trait

First, I would like to thank you for taking the time out to read about the discovery of this new trait or gene I’m working on.
Disclaimer: any names mentioned are only done regarding the project itself and relevant information, and doesn’t reflect on anyone or the outcome of the project being established as a trait or mutation.

My name is Jeffréy Bérmudéz I am the owner and operator of
Exotic constrictor designs . Please refer to me as Rey not my full name please.
We’ve been in the hobby / industry for about 20 years total.
Breeding boas since 2011 Located in orem utah.
Background story time !
I’m 2011- 2012 I came across a listing on Kingsnake.com and I found a listing from Dave Collin of
Rainbows R us. He was selling a group of animals he produced in what looked to be a co-breeding , with
Doug Matuzak of Boa Basement.
(Superghost Eva Mendez)
I spoke with Dave briefly about the animal being offered and was excited to get my first boa constrictor and it was a morph combo.
(My experience before boas was in GTPs) So I have pretty good knowledge of how lineage, polygenic passable inheritable traits, genetics etc…worked.
I also picked a ( jungle dh squaretail kahl albino named pablo ) from Josh Ketchum of black brush reptiles , who worked directly with Jeremy stone reptiles as a breeder.
In 2012 -13 I picked up a WC Colombian normal boa also on KingSnake with no documents on her unfortunately.
I didn’t ask for paperwork as they were just “ normals “ WC Colombian b.i animals that were labeled pastels.

In fall of 2014 I bred my animal from Doug and Dave (Eva superghost
X
Josh and jeremy
(jungle dh sqtail/ kahl )
I got like 7 or 8 babies.
I was keeping three and letting go the rest . At around 6 months or so my former associate
Jeremy Solis of Calistrictors, located in California. We were looking at boa pictures and live video, chatting about my babies and he asked me about something that I had not paid much mind to at all! He had said he noticed the sides and wanted to know why it looked kind of like a white side wall, but I had no answer . He began to say it looked like a ( California White-Wall tire ) . We had a laugh and I kind of rolled off , but he was pretty set on them just looking different. I had posted pictures, never really concerned about it much, until one day , I posted a picture in one of the exotic boa reptile groups
( I am no longer in FB it’s garbage filled with drama )
When a Reptile associate named
(diem Marie)
commented on the photo and said wow those are really nice, I hope you’re holding some of those back to breed back to the parents!
At the time, I wasn’t set on it at all because the parents didn’t have complete genes to give me the visuals, even if I bred them back to the sire and dame….but that’s when it was mentioned there was something weird about those babies, I can’t quite say what , but they said look like someone rubbed white coarse (SALT) across the side flank and I just kind of laughed about it and said I don’t know.
Well as time went by some of those holdbacks got older and the look became more and more extreme/aberrant in expression, so I began raising them, with the intent to prove out the het genes of the parents that were passed and to see if the funky stuff Jeremy and Diem, pointed out had any significance to anything , a (dinker project) Started.

Well the time came to breed one of the holdback males from the first breeding in 2018-19 and we were successful in breeding the son of Pablo x Eva
(Whitewall make named Akir) Offspring, To the wild caught Colombian “normal pastel" and the breeding was successful group #1 .
We again got a small litter of 12 babies…
We were also able to breed sibling to sibling group # 2 which unfortunately
(Akir x bloxs)
did not go well as the female sibling became egg bound and passed away and only gave two babies , one was a full striped high expression whitewall (salt) flanked animal that we believed to be a sqtail jungle whitewall salt…I couldn’t tell if it was a ghost or hypo just that it was very extreme.
Pictures will be shown of this animal and its normal high expression White-wall ( salt ) sibling which was a male…unfortunately the lone male I named (hope) never grew much and never showed any interest in breeding and was a pet only animal.
which unfortunately, this left let us unable to breed either one of the two babies born from sibling (whitewall) x sibling (whitewall) breeding and the only viable babies were from
White-wall hypo jungle poss th Anery kahl sqtail (akir)
X
autumn (WC colombia boa)
pastel pink belly and in that litter we only got a few Whitewall (salt)animals but one was very extreme and we named her (A2)
As the second generation was a total loss with losing (bloxs, a d.o.a baby and an unbreedable possible super sibling) we proceeded to raise a lone single female from this litter and named her (A2) after her mom Autumn as the next step in the chain and she did not disappoint. Her colors were off the charts and the white-wall (salt ) was so aberrant, it was like she was a super!
So this left us with the question and the task of proving out ,if in fact this was a polygenic trait, with double dose form or if it was possibly an incomplete gene, with variable expression , subjectively from offspring to offspring with a dominant super form.
Well we have now came to the successful breeding of (A2) in the fall of 2024 to borrowed male
Proven stud Aztec VpiT+ . that breeding gave us 11 or 12 babies, 1 d.o.a that was a pinkbelly whitewall hytec jungle that was fully striped and had high white expression whitewall sides, from what I could see. We also got several babies that varied with pinkbelly pastel traits and we started to notice quickly that we had about just over half the litter representing the Whitewall (salt) and was variable from subject to subject. And in some cases where gene stacking took place we found the gene or trait fight to show itself…it took us a while from the beginning of this project to know what we were looking for ,but over the years of studying the animals, I have noticed that some of the animals that exhibit the whitewall (salt ) look have defused white scales under the chin, most will have pink and black tongue patches and even those show up in certain amounts from animal to animal. We noticed the side walls have a slight yellowish, pink hue as they start out as babies. As they age the pink goes away and yellowish white really becomes more white and then the yellow shows up around the border of the pattern and the dorsal line of the back. We have now integrated the white wall with pink belly and that’s very interesting. We also noticed that this gene or trait is progressive as the animal age it kicks in more and more eating away at the side flank; in some animals it eats away all the crown medallions on the flank wall. Cameras don’t do justice! seeing them in person you can see it ,the cameras on the other hand are not my friend. Those animals that are extreme, I have done well documenting them for you with photos for your viewing pleasure and opinions.
Now I understand that proving genes and what not takes time. And I assure you have done the necessary leg work to show the replication now 3 times . I admit , I have failed at proving a super form. As of right now I do feel very good about suggesting this is a polygenic trait with double dose potential.
I am very close now! I have plenty of males to plug back to A2 if a super or a double dose is going to happen it should come in the next year or so, but that point It is safe to say we have a double dose with extreme variable or we have a super form and the race will be on from there to prove if these animals have super form as a dominant viable breeder .
Now let me talk about the name
I felt it was important to honor the community for their eyes in seeing what one doesn’t see themselves , even having them in front of them . And I didn’t want to jump on the use of the name CALICO, because at the time I was not certain if this was in fact that and in the case this wasn’t anything, I wanted to leave that to the proper use.
The other part was I didn’t want to use an already existing mutation and it comes off as a sell gimmick and to be honest I love the story of why it is called white-wall (salt) as a name and description for how it works .
As of right now we have only let go two animals from this year’s project a hypo pinkbelly White salt low expression, but it was a baby before we sold it so we can’t say how that animal may look now. the other is a very nice full barbwire striped pinkbelly White -wall salt hypo het Vpi T+ and we stay in constant communication, should any thing change in that situation we look to bring that male (Inosuke) back to
Exotic Constrictor Designs , we have updated images of him and he is definitely a high white-wall animal…we do hope we will be able to tap back into his genetics for future breedings as well.
As you can see we have shown all the family tree of ownership, the lineage of genetics as well as pictured examples of the gene/ trait.

As a whole community there are O.G breeders well seasoned such as myself and more, who know me and have spoken with me and can attest for the animals lineage and genetics.
We are going to let go a few more of these to some breeders, we know , who will be breeding and documenting the information for the community as whole as well as in the future and credit back to the Bermudez family and
Exotics Constríctor Designs for the discovery and introduction of a possible new morph or trait .
pricing for white wall salt is up in the air right now so I’ve really only been letting go of some very extreme variable examples to certain people so that when they decide to show those animals they will fall in line with proper representation of the gene/trait replication and be great show animals. We want and need to see these animals in other collections to document consistency in another collection. Unfortunately trust and loyalty is not given, earned and maintained very well in the hobby.

All we ask is that you look, listen, think and give us the opportunity to continue to replicate and bring you more of these beautiful babies to play with in the future.
We are not looking to get rich off you , scam you etc. with a new project.
we just wanna bring you something different and maybe just maybe we get to help you do something different with them as well . We will soon have the 100% answer in two years.
I can tell you it is completely isolated away from hypo. I have this in normals, normal pinkbelly, hypo, jungle Aztec and combos and chasing behind them with a little twist of Anery t1, sqtail, kahl albino, and 100% het Vpi T+

We have every image posted to coldblooded.com you can see pictures of every breeding and babies from every breeding and full examples of the gene/traits we are working with and seeking to have categories made for in the future as we beging to roll out Offspring of both pinkbelly pastel and the white-wall (salt). I would ask not to bring hateful energy to my post this gene works the same way as the sugar/calico gene in ball pythons.
We aim only to show consistency in the project. Her I will only show one baby. As loading picture takes me way to long and the apps always freezing.

You will need to make a coldblooded.com social media profile to search me there and see all the listed animals from the 4 generations we have replicated now. The link below is only for one baby below.

Thank you I’m hoping for transparency and people to give this a shot and check out all images listed to coldblooded.com As we definitely have shown consistency from normals to combo form variable expression etc. they all know who I am even the ones who know we are not friends :joy:.

I cant find you on coldblooded to see the pics. The link didnt take me to your page. I started on GTP as well. I had Aru with high pixelation
Of blues, whites, yellows and dark greyish blue black tail as well as solid green Biaks. Unfortunately to many heart breaks so have not had the courage to pick them back up.

Anyway, look forward to the outcomes and finding those photos.

Never mind. I think I just found you.

I found you. The ghost is my favorite. Would love to see it in snow. Hopefully it all works out.

This one is my favorite.

That is the O.G matriarch where we believe the gene white-wall (salt) came from she was produced by mr. Dave Collins of rainbows-r-us and Doug matuzak of boa basement from a Cobreeding of tommy x vanilla. Lineage of Family tree of breeding superghost. When we bought her she came from Mr Dave Collins papered as a superghost. I had a conversation with Larry mclevits I hope spelled that right. He had mentioned he remembered that litter very well and remember distinctly seeing Eva in the litter and a few others like her…she is also no longer living unfortunately we lost o.g back in 2017but she left us with her family. This stock goes back to 2011 and if go to rainbows-r-us he has a family tree going back even further of ghost to ghost to super a whole tree.

My heart broke so many times over my GTPs. My heart broke big when I lost my friend Rico wilder. He taught me everything about GTPs and John Holland. I got divorced sold everything two years later had the chance to get back…like you I picked up boa constríctor I couldn’t take the loss in gtp anymore … I appreciate you being here a fellow chondro keeper, who knows a bit about seeing things from the outside.

Maybe I will have more room and more funds in the future to add to the collection of white-side. Looking forward to what you come up with.

Hard dealing with losses but cherishing the good times helps keep them alive in our memories as well as move forward rather than relishing in the sorrow. Hopefully, you are doing way better now.

@exoticconstrictordesigns have you bred to a fire? It look extremely similar……

No We don’t own a single fire yet to this day!
those do not show this consistency in replication outside of hypo ,So that holds no water here .
as we have and we would have made diamonds when we bred Akir and bloxs together .
We will be breeding son to mother here hopefully next year 2026,but I doubt you’ll see that. We are on our 4th replication now and have never made fires or diamonds. If we did have what you’re suggesting ,then it would be going all the way back in the stock lineage going back to Dave Collins and Doug matuzak ghost family tree lineage and that was established way before stone and his fire diamond. I can’t see that connection. Plus I have this in normals. If you reference back to coldblooded I show litters in tubs, with this gene/trait replication outside of hypo with variable expression.

Thank you so much for the kind words !

Still reading through OP and slowly grasping what your saying. It reminds me of Turner White or a whitening Sunrise polygenic trait of NBTS. I think you will have your answer when you breed super to a normal in a few years or super to super. Not sure if you already bread to normal and have had some show up because that would eliminate recessive. Anyway, still cant get over that ghost. Its like extreme paradox but white. Cant wait to see more of this out there.

Yes we have bred the son of Pablo and Eva which was akir to the WC Colombian boa autumn the matriarch to the pinkbelly pastel line, that was labeled pastels. That how we got this 4th generation in now. Now I’m just waiting for a male to come of age to bring back to mom for supers and then a super to a Vpi normal. As we line to Vpi stock for the future and bea/carbon and blood…

Adon I need you to give me some of the full words to some of those jargon abbreviations what is turner white or whitening sunrise…nbts. I wanna see and research that and yes you are on the same page as I am. At this time I’m safely saying this is a polygenic trait with double dose potential. Or it is incomplete I need to get these possible supers or double doses. Did you see the two babies from Akir x bloxs the d.o.a high white baby and his sibling hope that is a runt and won’t breed and grow or eat much like a normal boa which I think could the result of inbreeding ,but they both showed very extreme super expressions or double dose . You see me!

Lol, my bad.

Northern blue tungue skinks. Most the stuff in States is polygenic traits with exceptions to the eastern or other blue tongue crosses. The turner whites and white sunrise are a line bred polygenic trait that starts of with patern and slowly fades, turns white, and shows variabl expression depending on lineage or what its crossed with in the last 3 to 4 generations. The white sunrises keep more contrast and patern but get whiter over time with some increasing contrast first year before fading and turning more white. White walker is another one. I mentioned it because it seems like the side scales and belly scales are acting similar to what is happening to the blue tongues.

Does the top dorsal get impacted or is it mainly bellyAnd side dorsal? I didnt see any of the tops impacted. I also noticed patern morphs hold more color and overpower white-side or is it something that needs time and more numbers to see whats going on for sure?

Saw the DOA but did not notice the runt when going through the photos. Hard to say much on the DOA and what was actualy going on with morph impact or lack of pigment through developmental issues. It definitely looked extreme with lots of potential but difficult to say without a doubt given the circumstances.

Never mind, i saw the runt and looks mor extreme towards the top 1/3. The other photos look extreme but hard to tell because of the lighting. Unfortunate, he is a nonproducer. You can get your Coefficient of inbreeding down by crossing 1st cousins or once removed 1st cousins and once removed or twice removed ancestors. Should boost your vigor.

I hope you don’t produce a fire or diamond from your salt breeding stock Rey. I don’t think you will either. In my opinion, the fire / diamond is cool for what it is. But I don’t like them or want one. I like my boas to have lots of color and cool looking patterns. I am trying to make mega peaked albinos with a lot of red or orange colors in them. Without using blood boa in them.

Just my opinion, but maybe your salt boas may have BCC Colombian in them. I see in pure BCC Colombians that they have very white belly scales with black speckling in them. So maybe the salt color / pattern may come from the genetics of the BCC Colombian. I am by no means a geneticist.
So I really don’t know much about genetics. Just enough to get by with what I breed.

Wish you the best with all your breed trials you are doing.
