It’s high time the pines got their own thread here!
The first snake I ever kept as a kid was a northern pine so they will always be special to me. I know there is at least one other pine snake owner on the site and maybe this will attract a few more to join our ranks.
Let’s use this as a catch all to discuss everything under the pine snake sun and share photos of our collection of P. melanoleucus, P. ruthveni., P. deppei, and P. lineaticollis.
Gorgeous animals Greg! . So glad you started this thread! We definitely need more variety here that’s for sure! I think I will start a Woma python thread soon when I get some better pictures of Duncan. Right now he definitely doesn’t want to stay still for pictures that do him justice!
I hope to see a thread full of beautiful pine snakes such as yours!
I only have one still around but Northerns are my favorite Pine Snake. This one is still here because my daughter loves it, she says he acts just like her
He’s actually one of the easier handling pituophis I’ve had (outside of gophers) but he’s got a lot to say.
@ballornothing That’s a killer northern! The high whites are gorgeous. I wish I could keep northerns but they are protected in NC and require a permit to keep. My understanding is the permits are pretty hard to obtain for private keepers. A high white or kentucky locale northern would definitely be on the list if I could. However, I do plan on adding more FL pines in the future. I really enjoy the diversity of phenotypes in that ssp. Most of my pituophis are pretty easy going with exception of my male black pine. He’s a cantankerous dude.
Presently I am without any pituophis but I have kept them. Years back I had sonorans. My female albino was like a scaley judge of character. Almost anyone could handle her but a couple people(the ex) would set her off on a full display. My daughter, when she was @ 9 yrs old, was playing with her and decided to show her mom. Boy howdy! She, mom, never went into the snake room ever again. Got stabbed, hissed at and poop sprayed from her hairline down. I was never so proud. My daughter almost fainted from laughing so hard. I miss her still. (The snake) Got them when they were pencil size and had them for @ 20 years. Would love to get some again.
Now, I live in the range of the great basin gopher. I find a few every year. They’re usually calm, even the juvies.
My profile pic is the first one I found when I moved here. Have had a few neighbors call and ask me to remove them.
I am such a ditz. Eric! I have a good reptile friend named Greg who must have been on my mind! I know it’s you Eric with those gorgeous pines! I do so apologize and it won’t happen again!!!
This story made me laugh so hard. I love when animals are good judges of human character. My oldest cat never liked my (now ex) boyfriend. Despite the fact that he was the one who picked her out at the shelter and absolutely doted on her, she always pretty much hated his guts. Turns out the cat was a better judge of character than I was. (She also hated one of my former roommates who turned out to be pretty awful.)
@eorr53 Your pines are amazing! They’re all gorgeous, but the blacks are still my favourite.
I got a new (fancy?) camera for Christmas. I’m still learning how to use it but I got some good shots of the pine weans. I was excited to learn the camera can actually pick up the pink color my male het albino FL pine has. I’m still figuring out the flash so a few of them look a little washed out.
Ooh! Fancy pics Eric! Those pines are lookers! I have a really nice camera that I have had for years and even a book for dummies to learn how to use it but the camera is my closest and the book is in a bookcase!
