I’m looking for my next reptiles I’ll get I’m an owner of 2 eastern or common garter snakes and a striped coastal carpet python. I also don’t really want corn snakes, geckos, sand boas, or bearded dragons. I really like constrictor snakes and arboreal lizards.
Because you have a carpet, I would recommend a boa. They are wonderful to keep, and handle. They can get big, but seeing that you have a carpet, that must not bother you. Plus they are super easy to keep.
What kind of boa?
Common boas

Boas sound good. But I’m wondering for more like lizards and more snakes
I would recommend rainbow boas, they are an intermediate animal due to their humidity levels but that wouldn’t be too hard to deal with.
What kind of rainbow boa I’ve heard that baby Brazilians are fragile but Colombians aren’t
Hmm, I didnt know baby brazilians were fragile and I dont know much about the columbians. I dont own a brazilian rainbow boa but have read a lot about them and havent read anything about them being fragile but dont take my word for it.
From what I’ve read, it’s a humidity thing. Neonate brazillian rainbow boas are extremely sensitive to drops in humidity. A sudden and/or prolonged drop in humidity can kill them. Columbians seem to be more tolerant when it comes to humidity changes. Other than the high humidity, care is pretty standard. I believe they both prefer slightly cooler temps as well.
Do you know where to find Colombian rainbow boa care guide
My best suggestions for a new species with what info you’ve provided would be the Colombian Rainbows (Had them back in the early 2000s and they’re pretty great, more drab than the Brazilians, but imo quite beautiful and interesting animals). Also highly recommend Bull Snakes and Pines. Lizard wise, Agamas are under appreciated, inexpensive captives and can be quite fun to keep (only kept wild caught ones that I caught myself though).
I like collard lizards though for lizards
Are their any intermediate or the next step up
monitor lizards. Highly doubt it but I like monitors
Also for crocodilians highly highly doubt there is intermediate types. Still turtles/tortoises
I really like Colombian Rainbow Boas - there are morphs now as well, though a standard regular CRB is a perfect boa!
This is a Paradigm CRB that I’ll be pairing with an Anery CRB in about two years or so.
I also enjoy Rosy Boas - they are fairly simple and straightforward.
Colubrid wise, I keep Malagasy Cat-Eyed Snakes and Bullsnakes and recommend both.
I don’t really like rosy boas that much
Look around on the marketplace for animals you like, make a list of the ones that you like. Figure out your enclosure size limit and budget. Calculate the enclosure size and expense of each reptile and eliminate the ones that aren’t possible. With that final list you can post it here and we can give you tips (like which ones might be difficult to keep or hard to find). From there wait a little. You recently got a carpet python so you don’t need another reptile immediately. It wouldn’t be a bad idea just to wait until your carpet is out of quarantine so you don’t reset the clock on the quarantine of the carpet with a new arrival. From there save up for the amount of money that you’re going to need. Then, set up the enclosure and let it run for a few weeks and get the temperatures and humidity perfect. If you have live plants leave them a little bit longer so they can root. From there you can get the reptile, don’t rush into it.
My carpet is it of quarantine it’s been 3 months since I got him
I would say ackies are a good intermediate monitor. All the monitor personality without the monitor size.
Are mangrove monitors intermediate
