Alrighty guys. One of my cresties laid a clutch of eggs the other day. (She’s laid eggs successfully before) I’ve seen slugs before, but this is new! These look like slugs, but I am honestly unsure as to what’s happening here exactly. And no, the yellow stuff is not coming from the eggs, although the angle of the picture makes it look like it is. Anyone know what’s up? Is my girl ok?? She also laid them in one of the egg cartons and not the egg laying box???

I’ve not had this happen so I’m just throwing it out there. Could it be calcium deficiency?

Hopefully someone will be able to help :crossed_fingers:

Would say slugs. But check with your light to see if you can see the ‘cheerio’.

@foxreptile Maybe! I’ve been trying to give her plenty of calcium though…

@ghoulishcresties Will do! I’ll give you guys an update soon! Thank you!!

The yellow looks like a very weak slug/uncalcified egg. Part of the weird look of the other two could be because they are dry from being in the carton.

Thanks! I agree, I have no idea how long they were in that carton for! I don’t know why she laid them there either… She’s laid in the laying box before! Even though I think they are slugs, I still put them in repashy super hatch like I always do for the eggs, and put them in the incubator. I just want to see what ends up happening.

Random question for some of you breeders and genetic experts lol. I’ve noticed some of you mention hypo, and when I look at the ones listed on MorphMarket I don’t see hypo as an option. Is hypo another term that can be used for lavender? I checked out the morphedia on it and I’m seeing it’s saying that lav is from a dark base with hypo. So how would I go about finding the hypo trait? I love hypo in ball pythons, and like the look of it in the cresties also.

Yeah it’s to do with lav, but it’s hypo… There’s different colours, lavs, red and yellow hypos, blues. It’s brilliant.

So I have Akira who’s a red extreme tricolour, she’s hypo as produced lavender and another hypo male.

I also had Haise and Harley produce a lavender so one of them is hypo or both and I didn’t even know

Defo go for breeders working with it! As some list as and they’re not…

So is hypo not a trait you can search for specifically though? What other genes are considered hypomelanistic

Atm no but I’m sure will be added.
You can search lavender though.

It’s more the colouration, not a specific gene. As said I didn’t even know one of mine was hypo until their baby!
But hypo reds like my girl, fire down a pinky colour. Keep in mind doesn’t also mean hypo though, I know know my girl is one due to her babies. Yellows fire down a very pale yellow or almost white colour.
Lavenders are ‘purple’ and fire a grey colour.
Blues are more us now and we are waiting to see best combos etc to make.

Interesting, so there’s still a lot of growth and learning with genetics for the cresties right? I’m trying to get an understanding, but the genetics don’t seem to work the same like I’m used to with ball pythons lol

Yeah Crestie genetics are quite different. Morphs and traits weren’t really logged many years ago which isn’t helping and Cresties can produce a wide variety when it’s comes to offspring. Also lots of traits aren’t always a great thing, it depends a lot on what ppl want to produce. And some traits hide other traits.

I’m looking to get a hypo Crestie one day, but this is my first year breeding and have so many projects running through my head. I hope to produce one myself but will be a waiting game for now.

If not I hope to buy one, but probably won’t be for a few years as I’d need to convince hubby that I need another Crestie lol

It’s so quiet. :joy:

Have a picture of Storm thinking he’s gonna luck out on a giant bug (Evy)

And Kain mid-wardrobe change. Poor dude had no privacy.

Don’t worry, I made sure he got the moss out of his mouth!

Ugh I hate it when they get moss or compost in their mouth :person_facepalming:

Ugh, I know! I literally watched it happen, but he was super patient when I went to get it out.

I think he’s dug himself a trench in the back of his enclosure (where he’s sitting.) he keeps popping up from behind a pile of dirt. It’s unsettling when I can’t find him. :joy:
