Iām getting impatient for the cork bark to arrive, I canāt wait to start. Until then Iām going to get supplies and plants.
@ghoulishcresties @foxreptile what are your thoughts on drainage layers? Do you think theyāre beneficial or pointless?
In no relation to this conversation, I may post less this month Christmas is coming and I have a lot to do before the kids are off school, Iām expecting this to happen sooner then scheduled so I need to try to prepare. If all goes well, then you will see me in here like usual!
Thatās a lot of cork bark
I use hydro balls. They help to keep humidity high plus you donāt have to worry about over watering the plants (within reason). I do have some enclosures without the drainage layer but I think it helps with healthy penny grief
I will definitely be getting some Christmas photos with some of the Cresties.
Iām off to spam now
You didnāt ask me, but Iām going to answer anyway with my own opinion.
Definitely important. It stops a soupy mess, and that way you wonāt kill your plants by having too much water. With that said, Iām not sure how @ghoulishcresties has done this in the hatchling boxes.
@foxreptile i feel that in my soul. Iām not looking forward to sugared-up preteens. you got this!
My kids are young, so the pressure is on I love everything Christmas
I have one box set up and a couple of small Exo Terras without the drainage and they are doing okay just slow growth for the plants and I tend not to add water to the substrate as much, plus less substrate
The hatchling enclosures donāt have a drainage layer, not needed one! Hoping I donāt!
They do well, actually got more substrate to do some more up, but they keep moisture well and havenāt been overflowed with water or anything
I have a couple vivs without drainage layer, thatās because I ran out of bio balls! But theyāve been fine, now I am setting up the mister and that means Iāll need one as will be a lot more water in them than me doing it myself.
If youāre misting yourself then really you donāt have to have one, all my plants are doing well, growing, never too much water in the vivs either.
The tank came with an automatic mister and Iāll likely try to keep the humidity high so Iāll add a drainage layer (time to add screen to the shopping list, lol).
We got a new 18x18x36 and will be redoing a few ourselves with the spray foam and branches in the background. Also need to do a smaller one for little Dorito.
Especially my gecko pics! Totally no bias there
Oh for sure the gecko pics
You can all skip the chat and go right for the pictures!
This thread is on fire
Cause everyone here is awesome.
I think this is the longest (in this thread) that anyone had gone without adding a pic!
Whoās going to break the cycle?
Iām loving these conversations with the shoe boxes I cut up and put some pipe insulation at the front and the back to keep as much of the substrate in as possible and no drainage layer, itās doing well. I will try to remember to get a pic at some point
and a great Looking gecko to break the streak
All these baby pics are making my patients run REALLY low ā¦I want babies
Not long to go, just a few months and I can pair, feels like a lifetime
I am using our BPs & Christmas as a distraction
Why are Cresties soā¦ strangeā¦
@ghoulishcresties hes beautiful!
@spottedbull is that Dorito?! That name brings me so much joy.
Weird pictures but I came upstairs last night to these party animals.
